upon reading what i said it did come off as hypocritical......but there is an extreme lack of posting of new threads....just looking for a new thread besides "so trey got popped???".....its old news.
Burn is right; however, one of the reasons why this thread has unraveled so long is because trey getting "popped" represents, among other things, yet another possible nail in the coffin that is hope for phish returning. as such, we're all interested in it and seeing where it goes.
he's just like the rest of us. made a mistake, got into rehab. i mean, i know what that's like. i just wasn't famous when i got caught. how many of us seriously bash on a fellow hippy for drugs? come on, man, we'd be hypocrites! sure, i pop xanaxes: i do all kinds of drugs. i don't idolize people for illicit actions. but phish fucking rocks man and if trey can play fucked up then what matters do it really involve?
He shouldn't have to apologize for anything really... except for driving under the influence and only because he put other peoples lives at risk by being on the road like that. Other than that he didn't do anything wrong.
I've been saying that since 95 and people get all out of shape about it! Actually, he can still mechanically play, but its like he has a "soul leak." Jerry managed to make a sound that worked to a point on the smack. but you KNOW when he's pretty unaware of what is around him by sound.
Agreed. There's a certain amount of technical and musical alacrity that being fucked up just saps from someone, no matter how good they are - -especially when you're playing with a band as technically precise as Phish could be. When Jerry was off, Bobby or Pigpen or Midland could come in and take up the slack. When Trey was off, there was only so much Page or Mike could do. I was reading through the index of show reviews http://www.phish.net/reviews/shows/ and the phrase "Trey flubbed..." shows up with alarming frequency the later the shows get. we could forgive a few flubs here and there, especially on tunes like "Guyute" and "Reba" and "Bowie," (but even that is somewhat circumspect; I mean, any Rush fans out there know that their shows are so technically precise and on-target as to be almost robotic - -a missed note or dropped beat is occasion for great debate), but when the flubs become a predictable part of the show, then Phish loses a bit of it's Phishiness.
you are assuming Brent was not also smacked out... a flub is part of the organic music experience (coming from a folkie who sees lots of flubs and their covers) and as such marks the difference between mechanical playing (such as symphonic) and human condition free form. but flubs are a piss-poor replacement for true connection with an audience.
if i was that cop, id let him go as long as i got a free ticket to his next show. but even if he said no, id still let him go
