In US Law, free speech does protect trolling in all forms, including name calling; as long as it's not a specifically false claim one is making to cause fiscal or legal damage to another party.

So If I were to say that everyone at hipforums were a pedophile interested in raping you, that would not be prosecutable. If I were to imply a specific person involved in a legal case had committed said act of pedophilia, that would be libel.

If I were to say that visiting hipforums causes cancer, which is a specific claim which cannot be validated and hurts hip forums business, that would also be libel.

What the webmaster chooses to label as free speech and not, and censor from his own website is at his own discretion.

Calling names isn't protected, at least not by forum rules, but it's not like someone's going to waste their time chasing down one little douche who calls everyone a communist.

If you had read more than the sentence you bolded, you would see that my understanding of free speech encompasses hipforums, and obviously, anywhere where someone else pays the bills, runs the servers, and makes the rules.
