labelling a whole generation under one banner really is bullshit. you can find ignorant asses no matter where or when you look. millennials included.

theyre just ignorant about different things

im expecting a major civil war in the States if things keep going the way they are.
or at the verry least some major civil disobedience to ocour. ..A 100 000 armed protesters marching the Whitehouse would shake things up a bit.

the opinion of a non american who is neither boomer or millenial.

Yeah, I'm a millennial by just about any definition that I have read.

I have a lot of half-baked thoughts about this topic, although none of them seem to say anything that hasn't already been said.

I see this divide as more of a divide between anyone born baby boomer or older, and with gen x, y, and z all lumped together on the other side. The post-9/11 and post-internet world is certainly a different one. And a lot of boomers have unrealistic expectations for their children, causing the older generations to see us as lazy Peter Pan types who can't seem to grasp adult life. I think it's pretty clear that the adult life of yesteryear isn't as effortlessly attainable as it used to be, and that our "goals" for adulthood either need to be modified or the system which has made them difficult to achieve requires a re-do. The younger generations are unduly burdened with much larger generation of aging people to support, inflation and extreme competition has made home ownership a pipe dream for many, the cost of university and raising children has ballooned.

Boomers make themselves look foolish when they spout platitudes about how lazy and lost we are. Most folks my age work several jobs to make ends meet--and the line between work and leisure becomes increasingly blurred as working from home and constant smart phone email access have become the norm.

Not that that makes "boomers" bad people, I just think some of their expectations no longer match reality. And that happened to the generation before them, and in 20 years I am sure that it will happen to me, too.

Not that millennial have a perfectly lucid interpretation of reality, either. I am sick of the whole "adulting is so hard" meme that everyone my age likes to repeat. Most basic tasks in life are pretty easy, as long as you take a minute to learn how to do them. Adversity, change, and suffering are a part of life, and I personally find adulthood to be much less challenging than childhood (at least as an adult you have some semblance of control over your life).

    Ok Boomer

  8. My parents are baby boomers i'm a Gen X the same as my two older brothers.
I think if you use "ok boomer" as an insult i think it's wrong and disrespectful towards your parents especially if your parents were born in the baby boomer era. (1940's)
We just had Rememberance Day here yesterday in Australia.
I'm going to take a sharp guess at those Milenials and gen Y groups and say they need to be taught what respect is and learn to respect their elders.

    Why?

They are already a huge burden on the health and welfare systems and its affecting the living costs of young families. We should be putting kids first

good name for a pop singer 15 years ago, back when millenials were still young enough to be pop singers.

  11. They rely on you to help care for them.

Now VG i know you love to take the p155 out of your own heritage but you simply can't do the same with your parents and grandparents. Your family history tells you that it's a proud one. You need to keep that going. Don't make your family name come into disrepute.
Family values need to be respected.

My mother has a three bedroom house to herself. Wont let the nephew and his mum move in because she doesnt want to get woken up early. The two of them are currently crammed into a one bedroom apartment.

First chance I get, I'm going to put her in a home and give the house to the nephew and his mom

Nice. She should have put you in an institution while she had a chance. If she gets wind of this, what a great time to cut you out of the will, and make sure to give her power of attorney to somebody else!

Well they are dying. I do see your point though. I think it comes from a lot of social and economic things. All teens think adults suck but in college you respect them more. I know that's the first time with professors and people like that I listened more. My generation does not hate anyone for their age. We hate that people of a certain age had a country with a lot of opportunities that are the time when they were the norm. Now they tell young people they should not feel "entitled" to those things.

It's frustrating to see the double standard. A boomer could afford tuition with a part time job sometimes a job only over the summer. It's $15,000 a semester now for in state residents for the major 4 university in my state. People already pay a tax for those students and it's $15,000. Even if you want to be a teacher which starts at around $30,000 a year here. It's hard to pay that off or hard to hear you are a bad American if you like socialist policies in goverment. One of the main reasons people get depressed is debt. There are a lot of good jobs the world needs that students don't go into since the debt is too high. Some joke that the major is useless if you can't find work and this is not always the case. Something like philosophy yeah maybe the jobs are limited unless you teach it but a lot of good jobs are done for the satisfaction more so.

Millennials tend to accept socialism more than people who grew up when Soviets were going to nuke you everyday. Gen Z loves it even more that us. We were born in a time when the only socialists were the Europeans. Europe is a nice place. People work less hours and make enough money to have travel and peruse hobbies. People pay tax but when you get sick you don't go bankrupt. If you want to learn to a teacher you don;t have to worry about college debt.
There is still all kinds of art, music, and people who say unpopular things. The people don't feel like they are not "free" and by American standards besides owning an Ar-15 they are. They will also say they are soclaist.

Yet some Americans most of them older will stick to our old ways. Boomer born post boomer times just don't have the same outlook on many things. It's not 100% of them but plenty of Boomer Republicans will tell you they were hippie types then and vote Republican since it's the same ultimate freedom of the hippies. You do you as the kids say now.
Millennial and Gen Z tend to vote more liberal.

Republicans will say it's normal for young people to vote Democrat since it's all about feelings and children worry about feelings. Adults deal with reality and see feelings almost as bad compared to just accepting reality is hard and "dealing with it". When you do that you also will have a college degree or years of experience so you will just vote for the logical right wingers who let you do you and keep all your money. Young people don't think like that. The Republican boomer voter is dying. Not as much as their parents but with each election more do.

I suspect long term what's considered right vs left will have to move more toward the left for the right. America is going to get European in tax for certain and likely some similar laws on what "hate" speech is and it's legality. These things will happen as people die and opinions change. I don't think someone who died during the Civil War would like a lot of what America is now. He was willing to get shot for it in 1863 but not now.

The living will always interpret ideas and evolve them. The dead can't lead and decide. Perhaps America will fall like Rome eventually did. That was not though liberal ideas of gender or even taxes. It was the result of a dictator taking control of Democratic ideas. Perhaps something to think of when comparing American politics to other empires.
