I was a young man in the 80's, first a child, then a young adult. So I do remember a lot of stuff that was going on back then. There were actually people in the mainstream of politics who believed AIDS was God's wrath. They were in Washington, they were in the state houses. I even heard it mentioned quite often, in the news media, believe it or not (so much for the liberal media). Most people don't say that anymore. It is no longer PC, some would say. But I just have one open question for all those people who once said that, or believed that (though I just want you people on the boards to debate it): Are all AIDS patients now "forgiven"? AIDS and HIV sufferers are living longer, more productive lives, thanks to new antiviral regiments. Simply put, AIDS is no longer a death sentence. So does that mean "all is forgiven" with our "wrathful" God? Think about it. First a little background. Of course when I say people once widely believed it was God's wrath, they were directing their anger at the gay community (though even back then, that wasn't entirely an accurate portrayal). And myself. I do believe in God. And being good. But not much else. I do think religion can still have a very positive effect though on lives, and even public policy. So this is not an anti-religion thread. I want to make that clear. And I have always been against bigotry, be against gays, or any other identifiable group. As I said before, I don't even think we should hate evil people. But back to my original question: How do anti-gay zealots account for new treatments for HIV and AIDS? Have any of them spoken on this topic? I really would like to know. :daisy: :daisy: :daisy:
The collective will of the sect is exactly equal to the will of their God. If you think it is God's wrath then it is God's wrath. If you think God has forgiven then God has forgiven. This truth is self evident.
forgiven for what? what kind of god would call an illness a sin? and what kind of really sick person would expect one to?
Science and medicine apparently are homophobic bigots or something for confirming what everyone has known for the past three decades or so. Shame on the CDC and WHOhttp://www.webmd.com/hiv-aids/news/20100923/1-in-5-gay-bi-men-have-hiv-nearly-half-dont-know
Perhaps my question was misunderstood then. I am just curious where everybody stands now, who once claimed this. And yes, there is a little sarcasm in my question, since (as I said) I have long seen the absurdity in claiming something like this.
It was believed promiscuity with multiple partners spread the disease - homosexual males were particularly identified . A practical aspect of partner devotion - disease control - was to be adopted . The promotion of homosexuality was already underway by intellectuals who reasoned the behavior as a life-style would affect a decrease in population numbers . (Relatedly , the abortion machine was also established .) The believers in traditional family-planning may continue to protest . Meanwhile , ephemeral progress is positive in the collective consciousness . A Wise Woman is invoked , and she is a kind and true lover .
