As far as the "Gateway" myth, I've done a lot of research about it....For an english paper. The only reason why cannabis should be considered a gateway drug, is because of its availability. People who use hard drugs, usually smoked pot first because it was the first thing they could get a hold of. If pot wasn't available, the "Gateway" drug would've been something else. Do you realize how pot became known as the gateway drug? Harry Anslinger made pot illegal in the 1930's. He did so claiming that people who tried "Marihuana" instantly became violent. He said that the "devils weed" caused its users to go on violent rampages and kill innocent victoms in their sleep. When the scientific study came out disproving his claims, he had to do something in order to keep cannabis illegal, so he switched gears and started telling people that it made people want to try harder drugs. The funny thing is, before he passed the law, he was asked if cannabis lead people to try other things such as heroin......and he SAID NO!
^Good points. And by that logic, alcohol should be considered the true "gateway" drug because of its availability. But it is my belief that the only real gateway is one's mind.
I can't remember the name of the book, and I allready turned it back into the Library....but it was full of statistics. All the stats you would ever want to know about any type of substance use/abuse. It showed that for most High School students in the U.S., it's easier to buy pot than it is alcohol. Which was true for me, because pot was allways floating around whereas alcohol, you would have to find someone old enough that's willing to make an extra trip outa his/her way to the liquor store. Very true
Well....thats weird. I didnt understand why people used to perfer sticking it up their noses and sure as hell don't understand why they continue to do so. I thought it was completely outdated, I learned about it in a Victorian History class I took....guess I was wrong!
That's really interesting; I stand corrected. I always had access to alcohol because of older siblings and older friends, but now that you mention it, I remember pot being easy to get as far back as 7th grade.
Jesus Christ, if anything's a gateway drug, alcohol is. But then again, the whole gateway drug thing is bullshit. But that doesn't change the point: if you believe weed is a gateway drug, then alcohol is definitely one as well.
Pot is a gateway drug for some people. To say it is for everyone is misleading. I did smoke pot before doing cocaine, LSD and drinking alcohol, but I think that was due simply to availablity. Now I don't use any drugs, other than alcohol, which is in moderation. I really prefer living with a clear head than one that's always doped up. I did more than my share of drugs throughout my high school and college years, so it's like I've been there and done that... now a change of scenery.
i had an easier time getting alcohol than weed...one of 3 options: stole it from parents, stole it from the liqour store, or had someone older buy it all 3 options were VERY easy
