I used to smoke almost 3 packs a day in my teens/early 20's. And then I quit cold turkey. I believe the physical addiction leaves your body very quickly (within a day or two) but it's breaking the mental habit that is a real bitch.

I strongly recommend making a written list of all the benefits/pleasure you get from smoking. Then make a list of all the benefits you would get from not smoking. Then make another list of all the pain that smoking is causing you.

I know it's sounds queer writing lists, but believe me, it's the only way. Your brain works on basic pain/pleasure principles and you've got to train yourself to associate massive pain to smoking AND massive pleasure to Not smoking. Writing it down and getting clearly in front of you will help you focus. It usually takes about 3 weeks to form a habit (whether good or bad), so don't beat yourself up day-to-day. Or at least try not beat yourself up too much.

    Hope this helps!
