I have smoked occasionally while breastfeeding (it has helped me from getting stressed, I have anxiety), and so far my son has been advanced on EVERYTHING from walking to talking.

I don't attribute him being advanced on smoking though, because what is even more important for his development is nutrition. I am a big health advocate and I think it is much more cruel, imo to breastfeed your child (or god forbid formula, ew) and be cramming down little debbie's snack cakes down your pie and polluting yourself with body product chemicals and the like that alter their development DRASTICALLY.

Given that, you should not overdo anything. Drinking too much coffee while bfing is ALSO terrible as it reeks havoc on their nervous system. Alcohol is evil and lumping everything into the "drugs" category sounds ignorant, way ignorant, I agree. Should you get spaced out of your mind? No. But we are adults, hopefully here, and know friggin' limits.

    Earth mamas, yo...
Then again I am weird because I:
    Breastfeed
    Cloth Diaper
    Co-Sleep
And don't let my child cry his eyes out to "train" him

I also note that I did not smoke while preggers because it made my nausea worse, but it has helped people I know (in small, medicinal amounts). My son was born 9lbs 2 ounces thanks to the mass of veggies I ate. Folate, woo!

Just be smart, and present, aware, and responsible. :2thumbsup:

On another note, aside from breastfeeding.... Smoking pot during pregnancy has also BEEN STUDIED and has NEVER been proven to have any effect on the babies once they were born. If you went to the doctor with anxiety they would be far more inclined to prescribe medicinal marijuana as opposed to any PILLS of ANY sort, because those are FAR more harmful than smoking a joint.

This DOES NOT mean that I do it... I'm 15 weeks pregnant and have not smoked anything. this is because I could not soundly do so having never laid eyes on this baby and would need to be reassured that the baby is fully formed and developing properly. then maybe once in a while i would have a couple puffs when my friends are... this DOESN'T mean that I'm going to smoke 3-5 huge bats a day...

to each their own! everyone has the right to make their own decisions! and ANYONE who does their research and backs up all their decisions before they make them SHOULD NOT get called off for being an irresponsible person or parent!

    just my 2 cents

I'd just like the mention that almost all our bodily functions are regulated in a homeostatic manner by cannabis-like products that our bodies produce. Endocannabinoids regulate our feelings of hunger and pain. This study discusses infant mortality rate as related to a variety of drugs.

More studies are needed, but I think it's safe to say that cannabis is not harmful to infants.

I heard that women naturally produce some of the chemicals in cannabis in their breast milk.

From what I read it appears that both the articles were written by alcoholics with personal prejudices against pot.

"If you choose to have an occasional glass of wine or beer while breastfeeding, knowing the risks, it's up to you. But marijuana use is not acceptable under any circumstances."
