haha I like when people assume I dont speak english. As you have seen UA, I look very mexican. then I open my mouth. hehe I love that part. I speak better english than most and its not even my first language.

i get the biggest kick out of it when they're talking shit about me and the people i'm with. hahaha! and then i turn around and ask them a question in spanish. lol. even in the us, you can't always assume that the white people around you don't understand what you're saying in spanish. i've heard people discussing the recent crimes they've committed, etc. very incriminating things. and the cops all speak spanish. either the hispanics in california are really dumb or they just don't give a shit.

It amazes me how you do it. I still have not even close to learning Spanish like I want to.

I mean I can get buy and do business and joke around in Spanish but the verbs mess me up and I know I am still thinking in English and saying it in Spanish, instead of thinking in Spanish and then saying in Spanish.

the trick is to not care about the verbs or your grammar or really even what you're saying. because the more you worry about saying it right, the more you're gonna think in english. just flub around and listen carefully to what other people say when they're saying the same thing as you. you'll get the phrasing right as you go along. that's the best way to learn another language. immersion works like a charm. i was speaking spanish nearly fluently in 4 months. i've lost a lot of it since i've been back in the states (lost the italian too dammit), but whatever you use most comes and takes over. when i first got back to the states i could barely speak english. lol!

hmm.. i think in english. If you speak to me in english and you switch to spanish, I have to pause realize that you switched languages on me, but if you speak spanish answer switch to english, I dont give it a second thought. weird.
I read, write and speak spanish fluently even though I never was really taught how spanish in school. dont ask me how. even my mom who got schooling doesnt spell half her words correctly. she spells fajita: fagita and frijoles: frigoles. haha countless others..

I know you are right. The fact is I understand almost every word and have no problem getting my point across.

I am just self conscious and want to say things properly. It is my little head trip I suppose.

I learned Spanish in Immersion school and traveling Mexico and Latin America.

Wish I was taught Spanish as a kid.

I truly do not have the mind to learn other languages. Some people can pick things up quick.

Me, not so much. Determination and refusing to give up is what is going to help me master Spanish.

I am pretty high. I think I need another bowl.:D

    Goodnight.

hah, like most "taxis" in SE Asia! have definitely had some interesting experiences in the back of pickup trucks in various places. don't see much of the phenomenon you speak of though, down here the mentality is more along the lines of "great, another tourist, stuff em on wherever they can fit!"

I love languages. I speak a bit of German and Spanish, but I understand more than I speak, which means I also understand a fair bit of Dutch and Italian. I have a lot of fun replying to people in English when they have no idea I understand their language. keeps them on their toes, too! and the Asians aren't quite as reserved about talking about you in front of you in their own language as Europeans tend to be, which can make for interesting moments when I understand what's going on.

Well... when you're the only white kid for miles, and you're riding in the back instead of in the front... it sure does make some faces turn.

i see... it's just the fact that you're white more than that you're a white person who rides in the back of a truck...
