Don't keep reading if you haven't tried it yet because I'm about to bad mouth their product.

Smart Balance Mayonnaise is NOT mayonnaise.

It is a lab created science project.

    These are the ingredients:

Water, Natural Vegetable Oil Blend (Canola, Soy, Flaxseed and Olive), Vinegar, Eggs, Corn Starch-Modified (Ingredient not in Regular Mayonnaise), Sugar, Contains Less than 2% of Natural Plant Sterols (Ingredient not in Regular Mayonnaise), Salt, Lemon Juice, Natural Flavor, Xanthan Gum (Ingredient not in Regular Mayonnaise), Potassium Sorbate, Calcium Disodium EDTA (Ingredient not in Regular Mayonnaise) and Sodium Benzoate (Ingredient not Found in Regular Mayonnaise), Preservatives, TBHQ (Ingredient not Found in Regular Mayonnaise), Beta Carotene And Oleoresin Paprika Color (Ingredient not Found in Regular Mayonnaise), Vitamin E.

This stuff tastes like a science project! I contacted the company to inquire about a refund so they sent me a coupon for a free item, sigh. I'm quite challenged to see this product as a health food.

I'm curious to know if others have tried Smart Balance and if so, what you think about it.

The MCSTF (mayonaise composition standards task force) might not support it, but the ingredients roughly resemble other items found in grocery stores.

I have never tried it, nor would I based on those nasty ingredients you listed. I would also NEVER eat anything marketed as "healthy," which comes in a package or container, because it is always the exact opposite of what it claims to be. It cracks me up, because this product, from what I can see, is loaded with inflammatory omega-6 oils which will help to upset a person's omega-3:6 balance, yet it is sold as being something "heart healthy," and it even has the world balance (of what, I'd like to know) in its name. So apparently other than tasting bad, it's also horrible for you, but gimmicky marketing somehow has people believing it's a health food.

There is nothing wrong with real mayonnaise, as long as it doesn't contain sugar and GMO soybean oil, which most mayo does. Most people avoid mayo because of the fat content, when fat is completely harmless, and it's actually sugar, starch, grains and rancid, oxidized vegetable oils that are the cause of so much of the poor health we see in society.

I recommend a REAL mayonnaise like Haim's safflower mayonnaise. It's a little more expensive, but it contains only quality ingredients. Fuck these chemical creations which are sold to the masses as "healthy." They will kill you faster than a steady diet of McDonalds.

My favorite mayonnaise is Gefen. Best stuff I've ever had. I only bought the Smart Balance because my online grocer / home delivery service doesn't carry Gefen and they were out of my #2 choice :(

I could not get over the taste and when I looked at the ingredients, I just laughed because it was so automatic: it's a friggen science project, pthoo! I laughed about it for a whole day, science mayonnaise! lol

Here's an article about TBHQ and why it should be avoided:

omg Who wants to eat an additive that's used in these things:

TBHQ is used in many foods, ranging from crackers to crisps to fast foods. It is also found in certain brands of pet foods, as well as in cosmetic and baby skincare products, varnish, lacquers and resins.

it's a form of butane!! lol

Now the question begs to be asked: How are you going to dispose of this toxic waste? :p

Haha. Well the reason I posted is because I finally took it out of the fridge today after it sat there for a few weeks. Took one more taste, just to amuse myself. It's going straight into the dumpster at 6 AM. :D

What about Smart Balance Margarine? That stuff is literally "unreal". You put it on hot toast and it just sits there like a piece of plastic!

It tastes awful and I believe it to be undigestable.

Ironically a very good product, has nearly the same name, Earth Balance margarine, which I believe is the same stuff I bought in the 1970s, then called "Natural Food Store Margarine", more generic.
The Earth Balance margarine is a blend of good oils and one version is organic. Very tasty!

For years Smart Balance Margarine was all you could get in major supermarkets, even though Earth Balance had already been out for years.

Now the markets seem to have wised up and put a few boxes of Earth Balance on the shelves.

It seems smart to NEVER buy anything by "Smart Balance'. Not sure what they're supposed to be balancing other than their books...

What amazes me is how the food industry continuously finds novel ways to foist their waste products on consumers disguised as something edible.

I've never heard of Earth Balance!

After the mayo incident, I won't try any of Smart Balance's other products (they also sell oil and I think a cooking spray). It is amazing, isn't it ... such a terrible product in the name of "health", smh.

"Health food " is a meaningless term. The only thing worth buying in a health food shop is the coconut oil and some supplements , both can be bought for less elsewhere.
Have you tried making your own mayonnaise? Hint , make sure the eggs are not cold and the olive oil is tepid in temperature.
