You can post any news stories from your neck of the woods here. I'm getting tired of national and international crap. The more mundane and nonthreatening the better.

Restaurant Owner Says Beer Tax Charge For Customer Was Honest Mistake

EDDYVILLE, KY – Last week Local 6 received a tip from a viewer that they had been charged a beer tax at the Back Nine Pizza Shoppe, but they didn’t order a beer. They sent us a copy of their receipt that showed they were in fact charged a beer tax when all they ordered was barbecue. So, we went to check out the restaurant for ourselves.

We walked in and ordered our food. After the meal we got our ticket and there was no beer tax added. We asked restaurant owner Mark Easley about the earlier charge with the viewer as we walked out. He says it was a mistake.

“It was not intentional whatsoever,” says Easley.

Easley says it was a simple computer glitch that caused the customer to be charged the beer tax.

“Our computer system was turning off and back on, and evidently the beer tax was turned on and she was charged 12 percent,” Easley says.

According to Easley, they tried to make it right with the customer by offering to give her money back and even pay for her meal. Easley says the customer turned down the offers. They still stand by the offers if the customer wants to taker them up on it.

“I just want to make everything right. I don’t want anybody having any hard feelings against us, especially over a couple of dollars,” says Easley.

    I like this idea. :)

I know a bit about this story because my work contracts some tradesfolk to help. There's folk not happy with the money being taken out of our district but with winter soon approaching, we really need the roads up to scratch to help the tourism of snowfolks. Plus safer roads are better for everybody, so I am happy. :)

Forstbetrieb takes a lot of money in the Mittenwald district
    • byChristof Schnürer

At the moment the forestry company Bad Tölz is carrying out the repair work in the Mittenwalder and Klaiser Revier. A higher six-figure sum must be invested there to eliminate the damage of the devastating June storm.

Mittenwald - Who this days with the Radl the forest road up to the Fischbachalm struggles and looks into the dry stream bed of Schöttllaine, can not imagine that there on 12./13. June turned a trickle into a raging river. He took everything that came to meet him. The so-called "Aibale-Bruck" was literally buried by water, mud and scree.

"A huge rain," recalls Robert Krebs, the deputy chief of the competent forest enterprise Bad Tölz. But what is particularly annoying for him and his colleagues is the "giant damage", which was caused by the June storm in the districts Mittenwald and Klais.

For some days, along the affected forest road: Mending to be prepared for the next forces of nature. At the "Aibale-Bruck" embankment, huge stones are currently being installed by the contracted company - for slope stabilization. "If we do nothing, eventually the way will be gone," clarifies Krebs. At many critical points in the Upper Isar Valley must be improved. "It costs a lot of money, but it does not help." According to Krebs, the forestry company has to raise a "higher, six-figure sum" for the refurbishment work. The connecting road to the Fischbachalm in the area of the Schöttlkarspitze (2049 meters) is not only important for the state forests. The Mittenwalder pastures also use the forest road as well as numerous mountain hikers and mountain bikers. "Basically," says Krebs, "it's the only way."

i'm not at the point of posting actual local news stories here, for anonymity purposes. if you do your homework, you can figure out exactly who i am, but i don't want to make it too easy.

that said, one of my favorite moments from living here was a few years ago picking up the actual legitimate local newspaper and seeing the top front page headline "bigfoot spotted in local field."

Local news, OK I'll look at today's paper

Think twice before planting these 6 potentially damaging trees

    Buckthorn

Introduced in the 1880s for its use in hedgerows, European buckthorn acclimated well to North America — too well. “It’s horribly invasive,”

    Cottonwood

With broad trunks and bright green foliage, cottonwoods may be pretty to look at but are messy trees that are prone to disease, In early to midsummer, the swirling cotton becomes lawn litter especially hated by pool owners.

    Black walnut

“The black walnut is a problem tree if it is planted too close to a house or other plantings. Known as shade trees with edible nuts and prized wood, black walnut trees produce big nuts that fall all over the yard or driveway. Squirrels crack and eat the walnuts, which can stain patios and sidewalks, It’s not a good fit for a backyard settings.

    Flowering pear

Called a “beautiful menace,” the flowering Bradford pear tree is an invasive plant that is banned for sale in some states. In addition to pushing out native plants, flowering pear trees produce smelly flowers and have weak structures.

    Ginkgo

The gingko tree is a living dinosaur that’s been in existence for over 200 million years. It still stinks. The female produces a foul-smelling fruit in the fall when the tree sheds its leaves and berries.

    Silver maple

One of the most common trees in North America, the silver maple is fast-growing with a shallow and aggressive root system. Because the roots are shallow they can be easily damaged by a lawn mower, and can buckle sidewalks and crack home foundations.

We got a red light several years ago. The only one in the county. But it's not in town.

Now, we're getting a Dollar General near it.

The Mojo Taco trailer is moving to a new spot.

My "town" is so small it doesn't have news... Matter of fact I've never even been there.
