Its no question I have severe depression, but I seem to also suffer from a different kind of reoccurring temporary depression too that is very weird. It happens as I lay down to go to sleep at night. Just before falling asleep as I'm getting drowsy, my mind gets flooded with this extremely doomy and dark mindset like something is terribly TERRIBLY wrong. It is usually focused on some specific thing too, like something in my life, family, problems in my life, or something like that. It is actually orders of magnitude more intense than the normal depression I experience during the day or waking hours. The feelings of despair are much more extreme during these episodes than normal waking hour depression. Sometimes I have to force myself to just wake back up for a minute or two, then try to go back to sleep again. Sometimes that can help calm my mind slightly. Does anyone else experience stuff like this?
Yes I did. It's gone now though. I'm not a doctor. Working out with boxing, sweating out 2 liters of water, jump roping to utter exhaustion, heavy bag and speed bag conditioning, abdominal workout...ect. The complete workout goes for about an hour+. It fixed my depression issues. My brain is making this positive juju mix that can't be reproduced naturally. I sleep less, but the sleep is deeper and more uninterrupted. I'm less tired with less sleep, I have no idea how that makes sense, but its working for me to a tee. Probably has alot to do with quality of sleep vs. quanity of sleep. Good luck Slasher.....
I definitely want to get some more active hobbies and drop some of my current bad habits. I also think just a simple change in diet would work wonders for me. That's probably my worst habit of all. I eat absolute and total crap. But eating well is actually not very easy in my little home town. There is not much variety in places to eat, and my work makes it difficult for me to cook or grocery shop. I'm also ignorant about cooking and nutrition. You hear these people say this food is the best, then others will say no that stuff is crap, etc. etc. I guess just a balanced diet is the way to go. I'm lucky that my metabolism is like the Saturn v rocket. I can literally eat big Macs three times a day every day and still weigh 160 lbs at 6'2".
Geezus man, excuses excuses Go the supermarket, buy fresh vegies, chop them up, steam or boil, whats to work out? You dont do it because they taste boring, not because no one has ever told you good nutrition means a lot of fresh vegies
Most people do not do the type of work I do. I work way back in the woods away from civilization sunrise to sunset. Only reason I'm talking so much now is because I'm on a short vacation.
I actually really relate to what you said, I went through a bad spot a year or so ago. I wasnt really depressed but I just had this overwhelming fear of death for a while and as soon as I would lay down at night I would become consumed with thoughts of a billion and one ways myself or my family could die in our sleep. It was a rough time This probably sounds really weird and also counter intuitive but reading novels about war and other human tragedy helped me a great deal during this time. I think because I had all these fears of what could happen, so reading about what people did when these things actually did happen was strangely soothing to me But also meditation. Thats probably a better suggestion.
I'm slipping quite a bit, trying to cover up bad sleep with booze which essentially perpetuates the cycle. Have had some fleeting moments of suicidal ideation as well, perhaps I give off that vibe which then increasingly isolates me. weird stuff.
Sorry to hear that you are going through this GB I recommend acupuncture and traditional Chinese herbal medicine for a lot of conditions, including depression and insomnia. I can say more about the subject, including was to find quality, affordable care if you are interested. There's a number of treatment methods...conventional, alternative, and self help. I'm not sure if you want to talk about treatment methods or not. If you feel like you are at risk for an attempt, getting on medication sounds like a good idea. You might want to try soaking your feet in warm water and epsom salts at night. I'd like to help if I can. Please feel free to PM me too about anything if you'd like. We got your back!
The standard conventional advice on insomnia includes something called "sleep hygiene". You might find something useful if you look it up.
Well the info also applies to you too I don't really know you as well as GB, but I'd still like to help
