"Second Life" ...What the fuck is this? I just watched a documentary about it on Netflix (Life 2.0) and I'm wondering if this is some sort of joke or not. Didn't mean to offend anyone if you are a part of this community.. just seems a little weird if you ask me. And I assume it's the easiest way in the WORLD to catfish someone, considering you get to make your avatar look how ever you want it to. And life continues to get more ridiculous everyday!
I don't know much about it but its legit. Well, as legit as it can get. Seen this a few years back and pretty much thought about it the same way you did. Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Looks like it's a mix between The Sims and Call of Duty (not because you kill people, just because you can actually see other people's 'avatars' across the world in this "virtual world" - if that makes any sense).. If you have Netflix you should watch some of the documentary if you're bored and want a laugh or two. Honestly I thought the know-it-alls on here would have more of an idea about what this is than I do.... (no offense )
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Life There you go for anyone interested enough to read about it. But the documentary is more for the lulz.
I'm more intrigued by your use of the word catfish. If you meant it the way I think you did, that's awesome, and I might steal it.
Heard of this a year or more ago on a computer forum. I don't think it was running yet at the time. I'll pass... can't handle the first life, certainly don't need a second one.
Isn't Catfish a super dumb MTV show about people faking who they really are? Anywho, I might check out that docu. I've never played Sims, but it sounds like the same concept.
lol I had an avatar on Second Life when it very first came out, but I didn't talk to anyone on there. I just wandered around and eventually found a place that you could virtually smoke a bong, so I was always virtually smoking bongs. I quickly grew bored of it and quit playing.
I've known some people who make a living on Second Life...I haven't talked them much over the years but this was like 5 years ago and several different people doing completely different things to make money on that site. That said I've never even typed in the URL, not interested.
I would disagree. It took me less than 5 minutes to throw a pic of someone else and add a fake name to a facebook account.
I find it quite interesting that the currency in online game can have such real worth There are people who have literally become wealthy off of Second Life.. There's this chick who is a real estate mogul in the game, and she is set for life IRL. IIRC, we're talking millions. Eve Online is another game where the in-game currency has real value. Being killed in an online game has a whole other meaning when you are ferrying cargo that is worth 10-20,000 real dollars.
Yeah, I heard about this 'game' years ago already (also saw a documentary about it years ago, it seemed pretty popular) and always remembered it because it seemed so pointless to me. To each their own though, I thought the sims was pointless too (for me at least) but if you have fun building stuff in it who cares right? As long as people don't make second life their primarily life I couldn't care less. But yeah, I stay the hell away from it myself
I know one girl who cares more about her 'second life' than about her original life. I still couldn't care less, it's her life whether she chooses the primary one or the second one. I heard about this game some years ago, created an account to see what the fuss was about and never logged in again.
It probably won't keep me awake either but still it seems like a kind of waste to care so much for an online game.
