So I LOVE sitar music. I've been real into Ravi Shankar for quite a few years. I was wondering if anybody else was interested or knew much about this genre of music? I love me some Ravi but I feel like it's time to branch off into some different Indian artists. If anybody could share with me any classical Esq Indian or sitar music I would be very grateful! :sultan:
I've loved the stuff ever since seeing my first concert after drinking a bhang lassi. Try "Indian Classical" on Pandora. This should bring up a variety of artists from the genre, including various instruments in addition to the sitar. I like the violin and some flute too.
Imrat Khan - Bass Sitar. Oh yeeeeeh, Bhang Lassi in Jaisalmier ( and some 'take away' (out)). Why can't I get that here? WHY ??
I had the same urge to explore after getting into Ravi Shankar. One thing I really recommend is Zakir Hussain. He's a tabla player but if you like Ravi Shankar's albums I am pretty sure you will also dig Zakir Hussain's albums. Try to find these ones (couldn't find an example on youtube otherwise I'd posted it)!!: Zakir Hussain & the Rhythm experience and Zakir Hussain - Vanaprastham. If you find them tell us what you think :cheers2:
I've listened to the sitar once in awhile. the music is awesome but I don't get around to it often enough
I got into Sitar Music whilst listening/watching a TV Programme shown on the BBC at dinnertimes "Back in the (60s) day" - Finding it different, Soulful and dare I say it? = Magical. As a fan of The BeaTles - when they brought the sound to some of their tunes, coupled with their "experimenting" of such culture, It has always held a degree of intoxication to me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEwydkff6MQ"]Village Dance - Ravi Shankar - YouTube
Have you heard this one, Billy!?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdEY3yqLC38"]Shocking Blue - Acka raga - YouTube
I have a vague memory of it - though it could be a memory trick !?! Sounding good though - Thanx for posting Maybe 'll have to do a bit of research on the matter and collate a track or two for Music Playlist to relax too ("The Sitar years"?) = sounds like a plan = lol
