Silvery Ghosts – Love & Other Ephemera Album review by Dave Smiles A more mature Hank Kim returns with a band named Silvery Ghosts and an album set to make his mark on the singer songwriter genre. After a five year absence from music, in which he overcame personal obstacles, the new album, Love & Other Ephemera, is to be released on June 9th. The name Silvery Ghosts reflects the vibe of the music as it was being created in the studio, Kim’s growth in the past few years as a person and an artist is reflected within his new music. There’s a lot of reflection and healing within these songs. Kelli Scarr, who sung on Moby’s album Wait For Me, adds her vocals to the album. Her voice blending perfectly with Kim’s on tracks like Wounded Start and Fine Trash. Fans of Hank Kim are sure to enjoy this album. Actually, Vivid in the Valley was the song that really turned me on to this group! The song is just one of those sultry, sexy slow burn songs. I love the sound of the mix of Kim and Scarr's vocals, and as the previous poster mentioned, Fine Trash is a really one of those songs that juxtaposes lyrics and music in a raw kind of sad way. When Scarr sings "It’s the season for this silly symphony/I hear the purple echo. But no one’s listening/The trash has not been picked up in 30 weeks/This whole neighborhood fucking reeks" it's sounds like pride in disdain and resignation. Anyway, I have really enjoyed this album, and have kept it on repeat for quite a while! If anyone has recommendations for other albums that are like it, I'd love to hear about those! Thank you!
