In light of recent escalations in politics, we are escalating gardens and have called our friends to dig in and make the best of the earth while the world sorts itself out. We are all ag skilled with at least one other vital (medical, chem, mechanical etc) skill aging from 18-25 & 40-72. Medical & niche cropping, basic farm and health products. Silver city is still a haven and we want to be settled in well before the "rush" is on. Straw bale/stucco works great out here and gardens do great taken care of. Numerous medical and sacred species occur naturally. We crop mj and medical/gourmet mushrooms as well. We like pretty and happy. Laid back and to each their own. Can't stand commitees, rather keep it simple as stewards of the environment and sanctuary, just doing what needs done and enjoying personal pursuits. Get high as a georgia pine, but def no "burning man" scene or "obligatory hippy" scene. Town is roughly thirds, hippies, rednecks & gays - but easy and not hostile. Good luck with your tribal pursuits ~
i actually have some interest in this , friend . as relates to farming , i like Indian corn and beans as a staple . have 2013 seed , a corn sheller , a flour mill . Silver City is the sort of place I'd just show up and play some music downtown to get aquainted .
thanks . should be on the road in a couple weeks , which is to be on the rainbow trail , which is extraordinary and not abnormally so . the way to New Mexico is an old road .
I do not think our other farm will be very safe for any living thing until the klan gets settled back down. Things are going worse, so they make it much worse on others.
So what sort of parcel are you working with down there? Urban gardening or more rural in the foothills? Some pretty interesting landscape around there it seems in any event. https://www.google.com/maps/@32.7589645,-108.2945406,443m/data=!3m1!1e3
Not all flat, up a little but not up in the mountains and yes rural. We have not totally settled on the perm site, but there is one where the "fixer upper" existing would make a great common house while all of us put in straw/stucco's with kivas. But you can spend days getting lost looking at sites out here. The perm site is if we find better ag and water even more rural. The kratom trees and berry bushes are not permanent yet (The ultrasour, blueberry hash, critical kush & bcn diesel are doing fabulously tho ~ working on meddy mushrooms today)
Sounds cool. Might want to check into this design if water is an issue. Solar cell, PC fan, PVC tube and some sort of coil to act as a Geothermal condenser (Copper, old brake line or whatevers handy) to catch the early am "humidity" might help fill some gaps in that department? http://www.wired.com/2011/11/airdrop-pulls-water-from-air-to-irrigate-plants/
Don't know how you're fixed for a pooper, but Mother Earth News had a design for a septic tank situation. I built one with a 55 gallon drum and PVC and it worked well. With more folks, a larger container would have to be used or drums in sequence (if that would work) . The magazine has an index of ALL the articles ever published, but I don't know if it is in every magazine. It served 4 of us really well.. No trouble. Keeps you from using a smelly outhouse. Edit: Of course the pipe leading away from the drum was perforated for the drain field.
Would be fun to work out something along these lines, maybe distill the liquids for future flushing while using the biochar for soil building? See much Honey Mesquite around there? http://cleantechnica.com/2014/03/19/solar-powered-toilet-developed-can-turn-waste-biochar/
hey bro sounds like the ball is starting to roll, hopefully i can get out there this or next year if everything goes smooth...have you gotten any pics of the land yet?
Couldn't load them on here if I did, can't figure it out - but should here in a couple weeks. I will pm you and email em or post on another site
