Should We Do Away with Rep?

Would a moderator please lock this thread?

 

I think you should give me some rep.

 

Maybe there should be consequences for having low rep, like only being able to post one word at a time.

 

I don't really care, to be honest... it wouldn't change my life it we got rid of it, not did it when we introduced it! But I do believe that too many people care too much about their reputation... it's superficial. All these threads get created because of it, and...

But if we got rid of reputation, one thing that's for sure is that it wouldn't change the fact that a lot of people here seek popularity, rep or not.. and threads like: "who's the coolest/hottest/stupidest etc. on the forums" would keep florishing.. as bad as "gimme more postive rep".

In a way I'm kind of indifferent - I mean I don't care how much rep I have... but on the other hand, I think keeping rep is good because it weeds out the assholes - the people who get a lot of bad rep get eliminated.

I say keep it. Those who don't care about it choose not to use it or disable it. And those who obsess about it will merely find another way of affirming themselves (i.e. "who's hottest?" -type threads) if it is taken away. I like to leave the occasional rep and it's nice to recieve them, but I don't go out of my way to check my User C.P. everyday just to see what people think of me. Perhaps the rep system could just be modified a bit. For example, not getting more jewels for having more rep, and like Seamonster recommended of automatically signing the rep leaver's name to it.
I think those two things, if possible to modify, would improve the rep system if it is kept.

Quality is in the eye of the beholder. Perhaps you'd find my posts more enjoyable were I to go get trashed and rave about how I'm going to kill myself, have AIDS or whatever the fuck else.

 

And have there really been so many threads about it lately? Besides whispers there really aven't been any in many months.

Besides, it's not like rep is mandatory, you don't have to particpate... I don't see why it bothers people who don't even particpate so much.

 

i turned mine off, i honestly dont give a shit what anyone thinks about my posts, and i personally think nothing good is coming out of having rep

 

rep is dumb.

 

some people make way too much out of it, especially most those who disabled theirs.

 

i like it sometimes. its nice to be able to say certain nice things to people without having it become entirely open to the forum and bothering or offending anyone. i guess that is what PMing is for too?

it's sordove like sowing a good good deed type of thing. not everyone checks their rep everyday and no notice lets them know they have new rep... so maybe they will check it one day when they need to hear what you wanted to tell them
