A lot of people even now don't realize it. But with the Iran Contra Affair, they had enough evidence to remove President Ronald Reagan from office. But Senate Democrats thought it would be political suicide. So they didn't. But should they have? What would have been the outcome? Because I have noticed people tend to accept things after they happened. Most of the public was against impeaching Richard Nixon. But when he finally resigned, he was one of the most hated men in US history, especially after Gerald Ford pardoned him. What would the outcome have been? And would we have gotten a President Dukakis as a result? Why not?
I seem to recall it was Ollie North who testified he hatched and carried out the plan. How is it Reagan should be impeached? I don't seem to recall he was held accountable for North's actions. Besides he was so freaking popular yeah it would have been political suicide.
i dunno, i don't even remember the reagan presidency. i think the first time i ever heard the name was when my mom was voting in the 1988 election. i didn't know what she was talking about, and i pictured him as a chicken for some reason. maybe because reagan and chicken sort of rhyme?
Yes, you're memory is correct. Oliver North--Reagan aide, president-to-be of the NRA and Fox and Friends pundit--was convicted of three counts relating on the secret deal to sell arms to the Iranian terrorists. . If you believe North was acting on his own, you probably also believe that Mickey Cohen paid Stormy Daniels $130,000 on his own. Jim Wright, then Speaker of the House, later said "I hoped that there would not be discovery of an impeachable offense. I didn't want to focus on such a divisive subject. I may have bent over backwards in error." He said that Congressional leaders were anxious to spare Congress and the country a divisive Watergate-style political ordeal.
It's absolutely sickening that they are behaving this way. They all need to come down hard on Trump and set an example. Separating themselves from Trump and showing everyone this isn't an us and them situation would be the best way to heal the nation as well as the integrity of their party.
Do you really think Iranian terrorists would have taken Americans hostage if Ronald Reagan were president? Do you really think the Russians would have invaded Afghanistan if Ronald Reagan were president? Do you really think third-rate military dictators would laugh at America, and burn our flag in contempt, if Ronald Reagan were president? [Concerned Citizen] Well, it might work! Sure! Only, it's going to be mighty dangerous for you, Cassidy! [Hoppy's faithful sidekick] Guess you don't know Hopalong Cassidy, mister! Adventure's his bread, excitement's his butter And danger, why to him that's like strawberry jam to top it off!
More than a little irony when Reagan lapsed into dementia, after turning all those mentally challenged folks out into the streets in California to fend for themselves. Goes around, comes around.
It's nice to know that whether or not the right decision is made depends upon whether it's politically expedient for those involved.
Wasn't he the guy who walked around like he had a stick up his ass & had a smile that could light up a room or a butane lighter for when that stick finally worked it's way loose? Oh wait......that's all presidents since the 60's ain't it.........
