Maybe you would change your mind if you were this girl - who had Caustic Soda poured over her body including her genital area after she was raped so the attackers could destroy their DNA. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article688118.ece Personally I think these people deserve special treatment at the hands of the law - this girl has suffered a fate worse than death. Have you ever seen someone who had acid or caustic soda poured over them these images are what happens http://www.gutenberg.org/files/17921/17921-h/images/fig063.jpg baby's face burnt
Chemical castration does not involve actual castration. It's the administration of drugs to stem a man's sex drive. I do not advocate this as an option either. More often than not, the mentally ill and 'criminally deviant' need socialisation and long-term care, not quick fix chemical solutions....
I would not change my mind. As I said before, I'm universally against the death penalty. The whole point of a universally applied principle is to free oneself from one's more irrational, emotional, retributive urges. If, say, someone I cared about very deeply had what you describe happen to them, I might very well feel the urge to go out and kill the person who did it to them. That might be the impulse, and it might be only natural, but it's the reigning in of that urge, the application of reason so as not to act on it or call for the state to act on it, that is important....
May i just say i have been a victim of sexual abuse (although i didnt have soda poured on me obviously, thats just dreadful) But anyway my point is i DO NOT want my abuser to be killed, tortured, or anything else like that! I did go through hell. Theres no other way of describing it. My head is still pretty messed from the whole experience, and im still working things out. At one time i nearly took my own life. Ive felt it all, the want for revenge, the anger, the shame and sorrow...but, as Peace-Phoenix has so rightly said, in the end dignified reason must win! For everyones good This happened to me and ive learnt from it. I want that man to get the help he needs, i want him to be kept away from society where he cant harm anyone else, and i want him to be given some dignity, because he is ill and because he is human. Taking his life would be a ridiculous idea on all fronts, and "punishing" him in a violent way would do no good Of course emotions are high in any situation like this, but we need to be rational. The "Yeah, lets get the bastard! Kill, kill!" mentality would only do more harm in the end. Having got rid of any desire to harm him, I am now free to heal Just thought id share to show not all victims would want their abuser dead
If the punishment for rape was death i can bet alot fewer rapes would take place. Woulnt this be a good thing?
A rather simple and little thought out view considering this is thinking about the fates of thousands of people (including the victims and people murdering the rapists), non?
Important for what reason ? The only reason I can think of is that they might not have done it, but with DNA evidence as it is, its likely that in the future all rapists will be caught. With the certainty that they committed the crime then surely the victim should have the right to put their view to the court that the barbaric animal should die. Perhaps if the court agreed the victim suffered enough they could agree. perhaps thats how it could work
You call them barbaric animals. Rape is barbaric as is murder. Theres the answer They are human. The victims are human. The people who would have to murder are human. We all need to be humane, decent, and sensible enough to realise that more violence is the last thing the situation needs, or itd just cause more heartbreak
Rape is barbaric as is murder Execution isnt murder - it is the sentence of a court in accord with laws we would or should all abide by it is the penaly of death ! Its a penalty a criminal would pay for their crime designed to make potential criminals think again
Taking someones life when you didnt have to is murder Im sure quite a few murderers sincerely believe they are killing for some justified reason They never are
your argument is just silly - murder is defined as the unlawful killing of someone without execution. Execution is not murder it is a penalty imposed by a body of authority. one does not become a murder victim as a penalty under the law - one is a murder victim because one is unlawfully killed. Although the two result in the same thing for the dead person, the act is defined by who and for what reason they are killed
In the UK you cant be "lawfully killed", and with good reason Calling that silly gave me a little chuckle though
That is so wrong... Taking one's life is a murder, whether it is unlawful killing or execution imposed by law.
explain that then - go on ? You might be surprised to learn that you can be lawfully executed - the police lawfully execute many people each year - the armed response teams can and do shoot to kill
You might be surprised to learn that you can be lawfully executed in britain- the police lawfully execute many people each year - the armed response teams can and do shoot to kill that is because they are taught not to wound anyone if the life of an officer is percieved to be in danger the order is dont shoot in any other way but to kill Now if that was murder they would be prosecuted for it !
Ill add that its often the treating violence with violence and hate with hate mentalty that creates these messes in the first place...Child molesters who were abused as children, rapists who were controlled...why continue the cycle? It only ends when someone is strong enough to overcome these feelings and say "actually, each and every life has value. I feel for this person and his sick head. I feel for the victims who should know some good will come of this. Lets handle this sensibly"
