I've been a vegetarian for like 3 years and I feel healthier then ever in my life. But I can't stop craving meat out of nowhere for some reason. I really want to add crocodile and free range organic bison/chicken back into my diet and I really want a damn cheese steak from the local Italian place. Should I break? Is it worth it after being totally committed for 3 years? Some smart-ass dieter get in here and help me out lol. If I maintain a diet of 80% nuts, fruit and juiced plants adding 20% organic meat back into my diet wont kill me right? I just want to live to 100 and eat shit that taste good.
maybe your body is just craving protein. go for some eggs milk and nuts and see if that changes anything
Everyone stands to gain from eating meat, granted it's not from factory farm sources. Organic beef and chicken are just as healthy as organic vegetables. I hate when people say stupid shit like "meat isn't healthy." The difference between grass-fed beef and grain-fed, factory farmed beef is like night and day.
Meat raised in a healthy environment with proper nutrition is healthy for anyone in moderation. People who don't agree either have health concerns or are afraid.
In terms of health, it's probably good to avoid: Highly preserved meats such as sausage, bacon, and beef jerky. They are usually high in sodium, nitrates, and nitrites, and other chemicals used to preserve them. Meats that are pickled or soaked in brine, such as country ham. They are high in sodium. Cheap, highly processed meats such as supermarket lunch meat. They are usually high in preservatives and junk animal products leftover from the meat industry. Smoked and charred meats. The Japanese culture has a relatively high incidence of esophageal and stomach cancer. It's believed to be caused by high amounts of salt, preservatives, and smoked foods. http://www.livestrong.com/article/361804-japanese-diet-stomach-cancer/
If you break your diet, then do it for something special... like human meat. Be the change you want to see in the world.
My mother is 93 and will be 94 in December. She is quite healthy, taking no medicine but daily takes a round of vitamins she decides on. She doesn't eat a lot of meat; but I assure you she does eat meat and whatever appeals to her taste buds. Not going overboard on any one thing and having some common sense about portions is the key to eating "right" imo. It seems to me that your craving for meat may be an indication that you should eat some. Why not include some fish, such as salmon, and chicken in your diet? For certain, salmon is good for you. I don't eat very much red meat myself.
If you want to eat meat again, then you should. What's the point of being healthy if you don't allow yourself to eat/do the things you enjoy? Life should be enjoyed; not endured.
The decision to start to eat meat again really goes back to why you decided not to. Are you comfortable with changing your diet. I do not think eating meat is harmful but I also think not eating meat if you can balance your diet is not harmful. In the end, balance is what is important when eating.
you really should start eating meat again. there is asbolutely nothing good about not eating meat. really is a crime against humanity to willfully choose to eliminate it from your daily meals.
If I get a job soon I think i'll start adding organic meat back into my diet. Thank you for tainting me fellow hip-forumers lol.
I would encourage you to stay on course and remain vegetarian. Eating meat may not kill you, but the animals wouldn't be so lucky.
