I'm a liberal in the old school sense when it comes to civil rights, I snap between American definitions of liberal and conservative in terms of economics, you can find many posts here of me defending the superiority of the free market with some common sense regulation to prohibit fraud.

Like really I might be able to agree with you on some points of your health care bill issues, but if your main point is going to be the CBO is being given fake numbers as you can tell I'm not going to take it seriously.

i'm not a conservative. i've stated already i'm an independent. and i respect your political opinions and preferences. and you keep bringing up the CBO estimates debate we had, I never said the CBO creates fake estimates/figures. I said the political party giving the figures to the CBO is without a doubt, not being forthright and honest in that political parties figures and it's own estimates.

and besides I already won that debate on the basis of inflation and economic conditions you cannot predict 10 years down the road. the real issue with the democrats estimates, you just cannot predict the total cost of anything when it comes to healthcare or just about any other product or service. look at social security or medicare, those estimates were far off the mark. so you are just being blind to the truth..

Tsk, tsk, where are your numbers then vs the CBO which has ivy league trained economist that can predict trends over the course of the years. Again, you have no basis for your claims beyond you want to believe them.

If guns are outlawed then only outlaws will have guns.

If a robber breaks in my house and threatens my family. I should be able to have a gun to shoot him. Criminals will always be able to buy guns in the black market. you really want criminals to be the only ones with the guns? The police takes like 10-15min. to arrive after being called. I think I'll stick with shooting the robber than waiting for the police.

When in a life threatening situation, self preservation is natural and acceptable. If anything should be outlawed, it is the outlaws, not our guns.

Before leaving the U.S. I lived in Kennesaw, Georgia which had the best gun law and that was reflected in the crime rate reduction after the law was passed.

What moves by Obama against gun ownership?

    Outlawing guns in general?

It may not be my favorite amendment, but the Second Amendment is as much a part of the Constitution as the First, Fourth and 14th.

And I'm suspicious of freedoms being taken away from the people.

If liberals, like me, can accept that the first amendment freedom of association prevents NMBLA from being outlawed, its not hard to accept that the second amendment prevents a general outlawing of guns.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
---Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759.

Anyone who thinks guns should be banned, should look at the facts and rethink their decision. Otherwise they are unfit for freedom and should go to a country with less freedom that doesn't allow guns. If you love freedom you love guns. Armed citizens allows a bit more control over a government. Taking guns from the citizens creates tyranny, something America was founded to go against.

The fact is places that have given more people the right to carry weapons have also had less crime. Your not going to pull a gun on someone if you know 50 other people will gun you down the next second. Also if you get rid of guns you will just have more stabbings. Look at london, guns dont stop murders. The criminals will always ben criminals, your better off arming the law abiding citizens so that they can better defend themselves.

Guns can be an important tool for survival - home protection and hunting. Long guns are legal here in Canada. Handguns are not.

Nobody should be allowed to carry handguns in public.

Why should a law abiding citizen not be allowed to defend himself? The criminal will carry if its illegal or not.

Of course they should be allowed to.

Concealed firearms are another matter, they should require a liscense (which shouldn't be prohibitively hard to get) but any one should be allowed to openly carry a holstered, loaded handgun.

Handguns carried in public is what leads to people being shot. A long gun can be seen coming and measures can be taken to avoid and to alert. Handguns have only one purpose - to shoot people. It's far far better that they not be allowed. AND THAT INCLUDES CRIMINALS - take them out of the public sphere entirely. The 2nd Amendment allows for arms - long guns are arms. That's enough.

My step-dad and his buddy hunt javelina with pistols.

But yeah, I know what you mean because I carried one in my car for a few days and I wanted to shoot asshole drivers the whole time, lol.

I had to put it back in my apartment.

Edit: I lived in a high crime area at the time, btw. That's the only reason I had it.

If they are not, then you would be considered unarmed when carrying one.
