d00d so did i! my electronics teacher is a dumbshit, melted half of the metal and completely mealted the plastic/ruber whatever it is. it was cool though because he went to the hospital and we got to go home =)
Well...that sucks for him man. He should do his homework before fucking around with electricity, eh? I saw it at a safety clinic we had for work. I was an electrician at a theatre, so we're dealing with a lot more power than your normal household circuits. Pretty sick shit.
Considering televisions are filled with electronics, there are circuit boards and wires running throughout the case, then yea, I'd say it is a big deal not to die.
i agree with DJ, its not that big a deal, however it IS a deal and someone who doesnt know what theyre doing could easily fuck up. you only need a little knowhow but this is lacking in many cases
Yeah, just unplug before you touch anything inside the TV. And you should ground yourself by touching anything metal before getting your baggie out of the TV. You might get shocked from built up static electricity, don't let that discourage you.
go to a local computer store, and ask for a nything that will prevent electric shock. what you are looking for is a wristband that has a wire off of it, and electrical clamp at the end. hook the clamp onto a metal part, and wear the braclet
That won't prevent electric shock to you, that's to ground you so when you work on electronics, you don't destroy them with static
unplug the tv, and dont use it for a few days. Capacitors are not perfect, the current will eventually wear out of them. It may help to try turning the tv on once it's been unplugged. Im not expert, but this may help discharge them completely. At any rate, with little know how, there's little way of knowing if current is still running through them. I see you got it out, but for future reference, just avoid them completely.
yeh lol, grounding yourself makes you a target for electricity, and thus increases your risk for getting electrocuted
