i guess if someone's passionate about it, that's very respectable.

i think preference in general is strongly influenced by what others think. Some want to rebel, some want to conform to be more acceptable. Eventually combined with other factors, like personal upbringing, environment, natural inclinations, etc... a preference is born.

Plus, it's not static, so that's a plus. Changing tastes 4 eva, baby.

About two years ago I went through a winter without shaving at all, just to try it out, y'know? It was pretty good - Extra warmth :p

But yeah I do shave. It's more for compfort than anything. I don't really like feeling prickly under my arm pits, or legs. Plus the HEAT during summer is rediculous, around 95-105 farenheit (35-40 celcius) So ya just dont want to be sweating your ass off all the time

I shave my legs and armpits once a month, and I freaking love being hairy :) It's just that I can't be hairy all the time working in retail :(

Surely you can cover up your pits + even your legs if you choose? To me hairy is much sexier!

    very strong voice...
and yes although alot of that might be true...
maybe some of us enjoy getting prettied up
it makes us feel good about ourselves,
it's not that we're not comfortable with who we are,
it's just an act of self fulfilment
beauty is in the eye of the beholder
why not be beautiful for me?

I shave my legs and underarms when they get itchy. :( I wish I had never started shaving. I started when I was 12 and I couldn't wait to shave. It makes me feel weird to think about it now. If no one else was shaving their legs, I wouldn't have. Definitely influenced by media. I would likely just let everything grow if it didn't itch so bad after awhile. I will have smooth legs for one day a month usually. lol Also, I will typically shave if going out in public in a bathing suit... for the same reason someone mentioned on like the 2nd page... I do'nt like being the center of attention and a hairy armpit will catch you quite a few glances around these parts. Gosh I wish I didn't care about that.

I do pluck my eyebrows still. I feel a bit hypocritical, but I think it really tidies up my eye area... Total unibrow if I don't.

I rarely wear make up... only for very special occasion, maybe four times a year.

Nothing is influenced by the media

    it's just an excuse

You do what you want reguardless if it's a bad idea at the time or not.
you still wanted to do it
    so you did
don't blame the media, that's just a sad excuse

Well that's just a silly statement. Of course the media influences us and our choices in appearances. Lame? Sure, but the media and all that goes along with it is the number one influence over our culture's dress and grooming.

If we were not sold on the the image of womens beauty being one without leg and pit hair I doubt an entire culture would be shaving themselves. We thought women were beautiful before we were told they shouldn't be hairy. Once we were sold on the idea then the public reaction to hair on women enforces it.

Sure women may do whatever they do with their hair for themselves, but I doubt the idea would be there had it not been a sales pitch.
