The first Deux Filles album, Silence & Wisdom from 1982. What I wouldn't give for a copy of this.. They took my favorite song 'She Slides' from the Girl Side (the vinyl album was split into a Boy and Girl side) off YouTube though

Me too! Just one of thousands of other tragically under appreciated masterpieces from that decade!

This particular live version gets me right in the gut. A few months after playing at Québec City's Summer Music Festival, a festival millions of spectators attend each year, Dédé Fortin committed suicide by seppuku. He never got over the loss of his friend who died of HIV, his tested relationships with his bandmates, and especially the break-up with his girlfriend.

You may not understand the words, but the whole song is an allegory to the long, hard, mundane and brutishly cold winters to his thoughts of giving up and ending it all - there's no room left on his answering machine's cassette - and if you listen carefully, around 3:00 til the end, you can hear him like, crying as he sings.

And he starts breaking down at a point in his lyrics where he addresses the crowd through song, he appologizes in his lyrics (almost to his fans?) and says he's jealous of everyone joyfully dancing like fire, and maybe he could play them a different chorus.

It's the friggin' saddest thing in the world.

Good song. Also, the video is wonderful. Jessica Biel, Natalie Portman, and Lindsay Lohan(when she was still sexy) all stripping. Jessica Biel is especially talented on the pole:D

It was an average October afternoon, bright sun, cool temps and clouds lazily meandering across the sky like herds of cotton balls. The year 1977.
One of my older friends, Skip, (no, I doubt it's the same Skip) called me to come by his apartment.
I stop by and he produces a JIF 1lb peanut butter jar almost 2/3 full of tiny little purple specks, Purple microdots, about 2000.
I immediately say "give me ten" and the transaction transpires. Placing them into a baggy I gingerly wrap it up and head back home.
Upon arriving at home I quickly place one of the fragile purple dots on my tongue and wonder whats it going to be like as this is my first real experience with LSD.
As I begin to feel its effects there is a knock on the door. I open the door to see my friend Reg standing there. It was then I noticed the red spots swirling around in circles on his face, I grinned and said "it's working".
I pull out my bag to offer Reg a hit, he declines. But I notice that two of my precious miniscule tablets have crumbled into dust. So of course I dump it out into my hand and gobble up the powder.
I have now consumed three hits, which I later learned was around 500-550ugs. Pretty hefty for my maiden voyage.
As things progressed Reg produced some nice blonde hash. I took 2-3 hits and it was off to the circus.
As things ramped up the album that was playing reflected sunlight against the wall (if you have never seen it, vinyl records reflect a rainbow like an oil slick), the record being slightly warped, the bright spot of the reflection grabbed my focus and as I sat transfixed by this undulating dot on the wall, everything vanished from view.
Eyes wide open, all I saw was pure white.
I reveled and wondered about this for about a minute or a century, both held the same significance. I suddenly "grabbed hold" and sat up looking over in Reg's direction a few feet away I said "Come Back!" and instantly was propelled down a tunnel comprised of a kaleidoscopic display of the room with Reg at the center. I sped into and past my body and touched Reg on the nose then snapped back into my body.
After that it was a visual circus, intricate patterns of gremlins on the ceiling laughing at/with me, the carpet was a writhing sea of snakes, Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd ran out of the TV and did two laps around the room and back into the TV, etc. etc.

At the height of the journey when I left my body, this plane of reality or whatever happened; this is what was playing as I was mesmerized by a floating dot on the wall.

Another first memory solidified with music. :sunny:

p.s. I thought the idea of this thread was to tell why a certain piece of music has meaning for you. Sorry if I'm being long-winded, but
am I the only one playing..............
