I like this view, and agree, but am uncertain of whether or not the registry and other factors already in place by law are to be part of a sex offender's punishment. I by no means think public urination by a drunk person should be considered exposure and therefore a sex offense putting them in the same position as a 50-year old molesting a child, and feel the same for an 18 year old who has sex with their 17 year old girl/boyfriend. Sex offenders of the more serious nature are often repeat offenders though, and those who molest young children have psychological issues that may be quite untreatable/curable which stem from childhood and therefore overall personality/mental health. Ideally, I would hope a judge could have the ability to understand the exact nature of any criminal act and make responsible judgments which would allow the offender to be recuperated to the point of being safe to interact with society, but that's well beyond a realistic outcome for a large enough fraction of offenders (in both the judge's ability to interpret the act fully and the individuals to recuperate).

A lot of it comes from fear by the public, and honestly, I wouldn't want a repeat sex offender living anywhere near my future children, so I can understand how things like "Megan's Law", as ineffective as they may be, get passed by public vote.

As for other felons and job applications, I agree, although it's a good thing that certain areas help to provide them jobs after a prison stay (I'm not sure if this is everywhere). Once you do your time, you do it and it should be over with, pending what other rehabilitation needs are given the offender (probation, etc). We have a program for felons at my school cafeteria, for instance, and several of them are probably the most courteous, nice people working there. Really I don't think laws punishing criminals should do any more than helping make sure they have the mindset where they won't break laws again. Except marijuana laws, which are epic suck and hurt the public far more than protecting it.

Isnt the idea that someone leaks the list , so people can meet out "community justice".
Like to a student who got pissed and flashed his arse , but somehow the village gossip said he sucked 4 year old's cocks...

Leaks the list??? Dude it's posted on the internet with maps and directions to the offenders HOMES. As it should be. Privacy be damned, if there's a convicted kid diddler in my 'hood I deserve to know. If Hannibal the cannibal moved into your... uh... village? Dell? Whatever you have in the UK... You'd want to know.
