some of the things you're saying are valid but there are some very broad judgments in there as well.

of course some people misuse drugs. people also misuse freedom, education, and power. the list goes on, and on, and on...

and a true hippie knows it's ridiculous to even need to call themselves as such ;)

you aren't anything. you just are.

True that... Of course i don't go by stereotypes.. And I made this nickname a long time ago so i'm just going with it.

Its so hard to find real LSD these days.. I don't think i've ever had a pure dose of real Acid EVER.

I love when people post: "your dumb".
The real hippies I have come across aren't heavy drug users but they usually dabble in psychedelics. They spend a lot of time doing good things like raising money to fight cancer or Tibetan freedom, etc. They usually drive fuel efficient cars or ride bikes. They don't like Bush, war, or corporate greed. The hippies I have across are in Austin and Salt Lake City..I'm sure there are plenty in San Francisco.

I think it's kind of funny to talk about true hippies and ...I guess... fake hippies.

I remember taking a Buddism religion class a long time ago taught by a Buddist, but very academic. He said something that changed my view of Buddism and other similar things...he said there were wars between Buddist, there are evil Buddist, and Buddist do bad things sometimes. We would be studying the whole thing, because to pick out just the good qualities and say that's Buddism would be misleading and incorrect. It really encompasses the whole thing.

So...I think it's kind of similar to this debate. I'm sure there were just as many posers and drug seeking hippies back then as there are now. Just look at the history of Haight-Ashbury and how it quickly turned into a nightmare or runaways and burnouts...still in the 60s. Certainly some very famous hero hippies had serious drug problems...and family/relationship problems. It's all part of the package. Nobody is perfect.

i think hippies have changed. but they have to, the times have changed. what good is a 60s hippie? it's 2009.

but the basic ideas of love, human rights, activism, opening your mind- they're all here. it just takes a different form, i think.

and like always you're gonna have some people who are straight up drug addicts and the like. but you had that in the 60s too.

i'm not a hippie but i love em.

edit: yeah peacegrow that was exactly what i was talking about with the drug addicts in the 60s... posting when you were lol. but yeah that area very quickly became full of burnouts and a lot of shady stuff.

Remember, hippies are people too, so are Republicans, Democrats, Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, black, white, yellow, red or brown.
They are all human so you are going to have the full spectrum of different personalities in all these and any other label you choose to classify people with. After all that's all these are is labels.
You are going to have saints and sinners in any group no matter who, what, where or when.

Thus has it been since the beginning of time and thus will it be till the end of time.

Also very true. I mean look at all the singers that died from a drug problem that were part of the big drug wave. Jimi hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin[Not to mention they all died at the age 27.] I mean those were just a few famous people.. Imagine how many of the original counterculture has actually died from drug usage. I don't want to honestly. I would have considered Kurt cobain a hippie, But I mean what is the definition of a hippie? Is it someone who only wants peace for the whole world, who does nice things for everyone and expects the world to change overnight. Or someone who does loads of psychadelics.. If anyone can tell me that.. that should answer my question..

Thus, the reason we are different is why their are wars. :[ Why can't we all just share one idea.. one world. Its sickening. Free will fucked up everything in my opinion..

free will isn't the problem, it's the choices we make.

i think once that kind of personal responsibility is completely accepted and recognized, it becomes much harder to do what you know is "wrong" and it becomes almost an obligation to always be careful to do what you believe is right.

Freewill IS the problem. We can do whatever the hell we want if you really think about it. Sure, actions have consequences. But who says someone can't just walk into a local mall tomorrow and go on a killing spree, because of the problems they are having in their own life? We all have the power to change the future. Just by typing this paragraph i'm affecting someone else's own life who chooses to read this. By choosing to read this I could be saving them from going on a drive and getting killed because at that exact moment both cars were meant to be there... But now its not cause they are sitting here reading this... Makes you think doesn't it? :]

eh it's fun to play around with "what ifs". they don't mean anything except some coincidences. there's no such thing as a strict pattern or anything definitive. who knows how many times i might have died or how many people i've influenced and i don't even know it.

but the whole idea of "actions have consequences" is exactly the point... you can do whatever you want to do, and if you are able to do many different things, you can choose. sometimes we choose wrong.

that's our own fault. free will exists because it either does, or it doesn't. there's no eternal law. i believe there is only one eternal consistent energy that progresses the world. i don't believe in god, but this energy i consider to be divine because you can never identify it, it is everywhere you go, and you can never escape it.

you may go down any road you want. it's just up to you as a person to make that decision for yourself, it's not anyone elses and it doesn't stop existing just because you want it to stop.

    it's all about potential.

Who are you to say hippies don't exist? You sir are a fool, you don't have the right to judge whether one is a hippy or not. Why you ask? Because you're human just as I am.
