you seem to have a good head on your shoulders lil brother(from reading your posts here),,and if after reading this thread you are indeed interested, then you are indeed welcome.. :)

i cant say as there is much we need around here other than more strong backs.
i would say that if planning on coming, just plan on having yourself self contained.. have what you need for you in other words..

oh wait thats not true,, a good radio is needed here.and batteries you can never have to many of.but other than that i think we are pretty well prepared.
i told you in the other thread that your P.M. doesnt seem to be activated but i left our e mail address there.

as has been stated we are outside ellijay georgia ,we can provide a contact number and directions in private.. although theres probably 10 threads in these forums with directions here as we have done several gatherings as well as potlucks here over the years..

also since things wont be off topic here,if theres any specific questions you have, please feel free to ask them..

what part of the country are you in? how are you planning on getting here?

I'm in Central Indiana, near indianapolis. I'm working on my licence atm and should have it within 60-70 days. I have my own car and a small savings from dealing in marijuana and odd jobs around my town. More than enough to get to Georgia with some well made directions. Given time to prepare I could be there within a year or less to help. I have all I need in my lil tye dye bag lol. as of right now I am living down by the river in my town. i come back to my parents house or friends houses to get on my pc and check this site.

hey HHB and D. You guys will defiantly find the right kats. To people serious about the place: I was there a month about a few years back in the winter. I had a memorable time and defiantly would recommend it to others who are thinking about what they are offering...as long as your seriously going to pull your weight in work. When i was there it was a 2 hour requirement...though i suspect most of us took that lightly...sorry guys if i disappointed , I'm proud to say i gave it a shot and worked...probably unsatisfactory but hey i wasn't kicked! I missed the drumming (im sure it drives you guys crazy now lol) and the laid back feeling and vibes....anyways good luck...

I said last year sometime and ill say it again...id love to come there again and put in some work for a few weeks...

hippy how sure are you about youre prediction of SHTF scenario. could you pm?

doors open ramble,,just bring your workin boots this time around.. ;)

as far as when will "SHTF"? I personally believe the spiral down has already began.i think we have less than 1 year before social and economic chaos is upon us..

i made a educated prediction of september being the beginning of the true downward ride.i believe something big will come to light or happen during that month that will cause even the biggest skeptics to believe what is coming. we shall see how accurate i am..

i do believe heart and soul that this country will not see spring without the true magnitude of what is upon us being evident to all..when folks are having to choose between heat or food this winter,,things are going to begin to unravel quickly..

i dont think your average person being spoon fed news by the corporate media realizes how bad it is yet. we are headed towards economic catastrophe in this country.at this point there is nothing the government can do except mask the true scope of the crisis to the masses and hold the crash off till the time is right for them..

once again,,i hope and pray everyday im wrong.. i want to be wrong more than anyone could imagine, however,i do far to much reading of economic news on a daily basis to believe anything but what ive stated at this point..

Greets all, new here. I have to say that this is possibly one of the few 5+ page threads I've ever read start to finish. Great stuff, helps me feel not so alone in my efforts to get-off-grid or at least greatly lessen my own dependance on the umbilical cord of society.
Just a couple lil' something's which really caught my eye in here.

Hippihillbilly, if that spring fed creek there is a year-round event with constant flow, have you considered rigging up an old truck alternator to a water wheel as a source of emergency electricity? If ya' want to get real ambitious, you could even salvage the generator from a gas powered unit provided that creek has good flow??

Much the same to ChronicTom, if those bridges were crossing running water.

And to the others looking for land, it's a bit of a craps shoot, but if you check with the County Assessors offices, you should be able to find a listing of Property selling for no more than the cost of the back taxes on the land. There is a catch to it however as I hear the rightful owner of the land has up to a year to pay the delinquent amount after your offer. This of course only matters if the powers that be manage to keep their shell game going for a few more years. Land auctions are another alternative where you could end up paying dimes on the dollar for a good sized parcel.

And Hippie, if ya' want to send me some good pictures of this water pipe problem, mabey I could walk you thru the repair via. email, Not a Plumber per se. but have worked for years as either Industrial Maintenance or Residential / commercial handyman.

P.S. a bit offtopic but relative for those trying to fend for themselves. The Lindsay publications company sell's gobs of books covering a wide variety of topics, Blacksmithing, backyard foundry work (Metal casting), Homesteading, Chemistry, yada yada, list goes on and on. Definatly worth a look for the DIY'ers. Most books are paperback reprints of old manuals from the 40's or the 1800's etc..

So again, Greet's all, Glad to have found this place.

    hey fritz,,, welcome aboard:)

the creek is not year round unfortunately. It used to be more so but with the last few years of dry, it has become seasonal and hardly even seasonal any more..:( The pond is also spring fed but the rate of flow is low and it is about a 1/4 mile from the house and would seem to far a distance for producing energy where we need it... i dunno lol perhaps not...

Well, that would be alot of wire to run. :(

Heres another lil' useful tidbit for ya' that could be of some use, 15 acres may have alot of trees / firewood on it now but if ya fit 3+ families on it / take in additional folks when tshtf, it wont last forever.

so heres a PDF to help plan the growing of a sustainable firewood orchard Figure it could come in handy for someone, thou it's made me somewhat regretful as to only having 2 acres.

I think in my 37 years here I've built up a fair share of good hands-on knowledge & know how and I'm always up for helping out with brainstorming thru difficulties from afar if needed.

Oh, and as far as power goes, in lieu of a good flow in the creek, you could possibly set up a tesla turbine to replace the water wheel and rig up some form of crude boiler to generate steam with. That Lindsaybks site I linked earlier has (cheap-ish) books on both as well as how to convert motors and alternators into power generators. Not super-simple, but not much worse than basic car maintenance & repair considering youre not looking for 100% efficiency, just something good enough to get the job done. I've got links for a few related eBooks somwhere I'll dig up for ya' later.

Well its good to see this whole plan coming into shape. Back to the country thats my stance on it. A place where we can all learn, grow, teach, an' work together as we ourselves are being shaped by nature.

Actually culled thru more of the eBooks I've colected from Gutenberg & accidentally put them in the "Emergency Preparedness" thread, figured it might get more views from those who could benefit from the info. I dunno, mabey I should just make it into it's own thread for informational resources??

Might be a good idea FritzDaKat. This thread has already been jacked up enough by a few particular ass-apes. The original poster already has preparedness on lock and if you read the op he is looking for the right person to prepare with.

    HHB and Dilli

Fellow preparer here. First ad forefost i would like to commend you on your previous replies. People that do not have a clue what this is about will always be ignorant to how it works. So typing your fingers off to tell someone to piss off wastes valuable energy that could be spent reloading:wink:

anyways im not sure what the contact situation is, what your looking for, what your providing and what needs to be brought in but i would like to talk to yall further. im in northern mn on the same situation as yall have going and its getting alittle crowded and i think its time to pop smoke.

but i guess if you have more info on what its about i would be interested in chatting with ya. i dont own a cell phone and hit the wifi at the local spots when i get into town so bear with me if im slow on the response.
