    Hi:)

No, I didnt take them pics but I got them from German, Swiss and other European weather forums. I read all the time in at least 4 european weather forums and so I can update you quite well about whats going on.
In my place we dont have much snow but severe frost around -5 to -15°C during the day and -15 to -20°C and less during the nights- this in a rather warm region with many wineyards.
The latest computer models dont show many chances for warmer weather for at least one week which will very likely continue until mid February at least.
At the end of that catastrophy hundreds of people will be dead, we already have at least 160 people frozen to death in europe.

edit: in Sweden they got the lowest temp since 2001 and the cold and violent Bora wind at the Croatian Adriatic see brings temps around -10°C with a strong windchill- poor palm trees.

i wonder about that poster in the travel forums toward the end of previous year who said he was gonna hitchhike his way through central europe this february. i and some others warned him against this because of possible cold, but he was optimistic about the temperature. well, there you have it. winter is always a risky business in europe. could be good, but then again, it can turn out something like this and fuck everything up.

Even as far south as Italy, there are masses of snow and more to come the next days.
Italy for example is having the most snow and cold since the 1950s or 1980s

as you can see in the latest computer weather models there is no warming in sight the next days- the catastrophy will continue, now the lakes and rivers in europe are seriously freezing

:( I was just thinking about that last night. I went out to a restaurant and then a bar, and whenever we were outside (between the car and the restaurant, between the restaurant and the bar, etc), we kept complaining about how freezing it was, and it made me really sad thinking that there are people who are sleeping out there.

More and more big lakes and rivers in Germany are freezing now, last night we had record low temperatures, in places less than -30 to -40°C.
Especially the eastern Adriatic coast is drowning in masses of record high snow from mediterranean snow storms which will reach up to Austria tomorrow.
According to latest model outputs the severe cold will continue for at least one more week...

amazing pictures, but sadness at the deaths this is causing, no doubt that another ice age is coming as we've had before. they used to hold frost fairs for months on end on the frozen river thames in london a few centuries ago when the weather was much harsher than it is now.

thats what they call the little ice age. But there were also warm ages.

Problem is that the situation will continue for at least a week with more heavy snowfalls first in regions of southern and eastern europe when warmer humid air from the south slipps over the cold air close to the ground resulting in blizzard like conditions.

The next problem comes when a warming up happens at the same time as heavy rainfalls which would result in catastrophic floodings in those regions (southern, south eastern and eastern europe).

Same here in the north of the netherlands. I'm not complaining though  It's great fun! :p Also very entertaining how the whole country gets it's hope up for the possibility of another elfstedentocht (eleven cities tour), a 200 km ice skating competition through a large part of the Frisian province. Last one was held in 1997. Everyone romanticizes the shit out of it but it's actually so epic I can not resist it sometimes myself either :2thumbsup:

    edit: a nostalgic picture from 1963 :D
