I can't say much about the US, not yet been there, but Britain, I always feel, is an instincively pagan land. Christianity has only ever been a kind of overlay here. Beneath the surface, the old pagan spirit is very much alive.
heh, the boat that doesn't float- probably a good idea -declining the offer and all, but we still want the veg food
campbell34 : "The God that has spoken these prophecies of truth, is Jesus Christ. And only this God who has revealed Himself by revealing the future, can be trusted. The Bible has stated that there is no other name under heaven given to men to be saved, but the name Jesus Christ." well, I don't know but nostradamus is also considered a very good "seer" who predicted WWI, WWII... etc. but no body calls him divine. Don't you feel that belief in Jesus Christ should transcend the belief in these worldly predictions? Campbell : "If you seek the divine Lord, you will find Him in Jesus Christ. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not parish, but will have everlasting life. There is no other Gods, there are no other names. It's Jesus Christ alone, that died for the sins of the world. Give your life to Him, and you will know the Lord of Lords, and the King of Kings." I understand what you mean, in my language the king of kings is called paramatma- God.
Concerning the future I would go along with what Sri Ramana said, "Why should you worry about the future? You don't even know the present properly. Take care of the present and the future will take care of itself. There is One who governs the world and it is His task to look after the world. He who has given life to the world knews how to look after it also. He bears the burden of this world, not you. As you are, so is the world. Without understanding yourself what is the use of trying to understand the world? This is a question that seekers after the truth need not consider. People waste their energies over all such questions."
Exactly phil! Beautiful quote. To back that, I quote Swami Chnmayananda - To know your present condition, look at your past deeds. To know your future, look at your present actions.
And on the subject of boats, I want to quote Ramakrishna Paramahamsa - Let us live in this world as a boat in the water. The boat must be in the water, but the water must not be in the boat.
I very much like that quote.... Now I want to share one...but I can't say I have another boat one... -“Some people indulge in quarrels, saying, 'One cannot attain anything unless one worships our Krishna', or, 'Nothing can be gained without the worship of Kali, our Divine Mother', or, 'One cannot be saved without accepting the Christian religion.' This is pure dogmatism. The dogmatist says, 'My religion alone is true, and the religions of others are false.' This is a bad attitude. God can be reached by different paths.”- Sri Ramakrishna Thought this was appropriate.
Nice quotes bhasker, philuk and savagegarden beauty Whenever I come across good quotes I copy paste it onto notepad and now I have quite a good collection that gives me an idea I am going to start a thread about it
good idea half a hippie maybe you could create a collection of quote treads on different subjects? And also love this quote from Winston Churchill. A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject.
Me too. It started out about a year ago as part of a creative writing project and then I just kept adding and now I have about 25 pages.
To Tell You The Truth I Have Been Extremely Busy In My Own Personal Life To Check This Thread. But I Find It Offensive To My Intelligence That Some People (campbell 1134) Feel That I Am Not Receptive And Open To These Numerous Responses. And No I Do Not Feel That This Thread Is Weird. It Is Extremely Informative And I Only Hope That It Continues To Grow. To Be Honest With You All I Wish To Post Another Thread That Exhibits My Intellect In A Much Better Fashion. I Feel This Way Because I Think That I Started The Thread Quite Shallowly.
true, but he too has some hope, well atleast we will hope . "If the fool would persist in his folly he would become wise. " sorry for stealing it BBB
Nostradamus never claimed to be divine, he himself did not fulfill the 300 prophecies of the Old Testament, and if you can understand any of his prophecies, they fall far short of 100% accuracy, which is the standard that is given in the Bible. Scripture states, that if a prophecy comes from God, it must be 100% accurate, Nostradamus did not have that kind of accuracy. Also Nostradamus often used occult means to secure his prophecies, which is forbidden by scripture. You can't seperate Jesus From the Bible, for many of the prophecies were spoken by Him. Jesus stated, that blessed was the man that would study and understand these prophecies. These prophecies were given so men would know the true God, based on the truth revealed. These prophecies are not to be hidden, or ignored, but revealed to all how will listen.
The belief that God can be reached by going different paths is untrue. Only the God that speaks the truth and reveals the future before it happens in detail can be trusted. This opinion has nothing to do with a bad attitude, but has every thing to do with the truth. Only the God of the Bible has stated that near the end of time the Jews will return to Israel, only the God of the Bible said they would take southern Israel first and then take Jerusalem second. South Israel recaptured 1948. Jerusalem recaptured 1967. Only the God of the Bible said that Jerusalem's East Gate would have an addition built onto it, and then be sealed. This has happened. Only the God of the Bible has stated that any attempts to break throught the gate will fail. There were to attempts by Moslems to break throught the Gate and to break the prophecy, both attempts failed. Just as the Bible said they would. There are MANY more prophecies in the Bible, and everyone of them reveals that the author of this Book knew the future. Other religions have their ceromony, and their ritual. But only the Bible has the knowledge of the future. And as we all know, only God knows the future. There is know other name given unto men to be saved, but the name Jesus Christ.
Oh dear...can't you see that we're all just people...? When it comes down to it...every person here is just a child of God trying to do the best they can....and God just wants us to come back to him...don't really, really think He cares how...just as long as we do it...Jesus is the way for some...and other ways are meant for others...and I wouldn't go right away to call one of the great saints (Sri Ramakrishna) a liar...I'm pretty sure that teacher knows what he's talking about....
It is from the proverbs of hell in 'The Marriage of Heaven and Hell' by William Blake. Here's another:'One law for the lion and the ox is oppression'.
Here's a few more of the same: 'He whose face gives no light shall never become a star' 'Prisons are built with stones of law; brothels with bricks of religion' 'Always be ready to speak your mind, and a base man will avoid you' 'The tigers of wrath are wiser than the horses of instruction' 'To create a little flower is the labour of ages'
Well I don't know if you read my post fully, but I just stated that the prophecies of the Bible are being fulfilled and in detail. Yet you said nothing about that so I guess that means truth is no big thing with you. You did not even question what I had just told you. If Sri Ramakrishna is not a liar, then that means Jesus Christ is. You can't have it both ways, unless you are an air head, and nothing means anything to you because you don't have to think about anything. All you have to do, is keep making statements that are not thought out, just expressed. How many prophecies did Sri Ramakrishna fulfill? Jesus Christ fulfilled over 300 and the Bible did not stop there, the prophecies are happening right in front of your eyes, but because you don't know anything, you don't have to consider them, but you do ignore them. WOW.
