or maybe just wikipedia, duh. It is properly "semantic is" and "semantics are", good sir. The grammatically proper title of this thread should be "Semantics are important".
Mais tu n'es pas correct. On dira jamais en francais que les sémantiques est important. Et en effet, c'est la même chose avec les même règles de la grammaire qui s'applique. Yo soy equivocado. Du bist Unrecht.

yeah, me and wikipedia, the university of michigan, and every professor of semantics on the planet is wrong. from the university of michigan: I was being facetious with aqualight. He used the term in a different construction.
In french, the "les" has to agree with the verb. In English, the form is different, and generally takes a singular noun, at least among the educated. Sí, tienes razón. Te equivoques. Pero tienes que conjugar, y parece que no aprendiste que "ser" y "estar" son distinctos. En este caso, no se use ser, sino estar. Pero es mejor emplear la forma "equivocarse", sino "estar equivocado". Entonces, "me equivoco" puedes decir. Quizás puede ser que tienes que estudiar tu castellano más, antes de decir el opuesto de lo que quieres. Man, I miss being 24 and knowing everything. I will concede this: noun verb agreement is not set in stone, much like adverbs do not necessarily take an -ly ending unless you are under the sway of latinists. For example, it is very bad to correct someone for saying "I feel good". Or "Do it quick". The urge to give all adverbs a special ending is not very English. Generally it is reflects poorly on you if you pick on someone's usage, especially in english.
What's wrong maryjohn? You couldn't make it into Yale when you were 24 because of your use of grammar? Don't be jealous. They've got a cruddy library there anyway. *flips hair*
:chillpill: Boy is that ever true. I never had the discipline for school. That's why I went to UBC! And the library is amazing, by the way. i get a card because my wife goes there.
I think there is a parallel here, between talking to a computer and trying to talk to social conservatives. Aristartle, contact me if you want the professor's contact info, because you may want to correct his grammar.
Maybe you should e-mail him first and ask him if using the phrase "Semantics is important" can be grammatically correct since you trust his opinion so much.
I think I've found enough sources for you. They can't ALL be wrong. You on the other hand, if you can accept the concept, MAY be wrong. Why don't you ask one of your professors? I think we've gone back and forth on this long enough. If i can't convince you on a generally accepted usage of the English language and you refuse to look it up, this is a silly undertaking. Appeal to an authority if you can't accept I might know what I am talking about. If you get over yourself and ask questions, you may just learn something. Otherwise, I will feel some responsibility, as it was my aggressive response to your unfortunate attempt at discrediting me that resulted in your refusal to address your own ignorance on this matter. Being wrong should be cause for celebration, not shame. This is an opportunity for you to learn one of the quirks of the English Language. For me, it is a study in obstinate ignorance and whether it can be cast aside.
prove it. and then later you can gang up with the other kids in the schoolyard and call me names. it'll be great.
