Is it true that Canadians are self -deprecating and do they do it to confuse their cousins south of the 49th parallel?
I've tried to be self deprecating but I'm really not that good at it. Yeah, I think Canadians are trying to do just that - confuse us. But that shouldn't take too much (hey, that one wasn't bad. I self deprecated and brought the US down with me).
I think that modesty may be an important Canadian value. I'm not aware of Canadians being especially self-deprecating though.
Our humour is very British influenced and the Brits can do some nice self-deprecation. It has nothing to do with the U.S. Though, we did have a brief surge of nationalism during the Joe Canada beer commercial era. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRI-A3vakVg"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRI-A3vakVg
I kinda thought of Canadians or rather Canada as a whole as being modest. Maybe that's because you don't here much about Canada in world news here in the states (probably because they don't meddle in other nations affairs as much). It seems as though they just kind of hang out, laid back, and sit on us like a hat.
Maybe the not meddling part is true. Mostly we in the states don't pay much attention to anyone but ourselves, except if something gets blown up and lots of people get killed. I think there's plenty that goes on in Canada, but we're a little too self-important to pay much attention.
You Canadians may have Bryan Adams but we have George W. Bush. Ah...wait, that's not a good one. I'll be back.
We make everything bigger, better, stronger and faster. Problem is we sell it all to China now and we get their stuff sold to us.
i always self-deprecate mostly because i cant do it if someone is watching sometimes i even take the handicap bathroom because they are way more private
