I'm not so sure 'unexpectedly' really applies here, but when I was living in digs, it was always a case of open door policy, and we would always walk in & out of each others rooms quite freely, and if one of the lads happened to be masturbating it wasn't seen as being any big deal, and more often than not, wouldn't even interrupt the session.
