i was outside my house a week or so ago and some guy was driving down the street and soem stupid mother fucker had the passenger window rolled down and was sitting where the window would be basically hanging out of the car while holding onto the top of the roof. I was hoping he would fall out.
and all of that I can totally respect..... and right there is where you go off the rails yet again. you see PR, that is my gripe I guess, is that you turn EVERYTHING into some fucking nefarious plot that only you and a small handful of others are aware of. That is just plain crazy paranoid bullshit, pretty much the clinical definition. If the seat belt law is not about public safety, then what is it for, and please don't tell me to generate revenue, they have much better means of doing that. For that matter, why don't you enlighten us all and tell us the REAL reason behind all of the government mandated safety laws, because of course they can't be as simple as being about safety, there MUST be some plot behind them, correct? so please do educate us peons. waiting to learn....
I'm one of those steel pin recipients but only limp on rainy days I ain't proud of it...it is what it is. I still love riding.
I do believe the seat belt laws began by some special interest groups, lobbyists, etc. I also truly doubt the small amount of fines because of seat belt tickets make much revenue. I'm betting if you had friends that were first responders, they'd tell you how your decisions affect their lives. It's just too easy to buckle up...has nothing to do with being a cop or government loving groveler!! lol
So, as we knock off the personal insults..... The first car I actually owned was a '63 Dodge Dart Gt which came from the factory with bucket seats and seat belts..no shoulder straps. Belts weren't required to be installed by the manufacturers until 1968 and you didn't have to wear them until 1987 in PA. I have always worn seat belts since I started driving, if the car had them. I found they hold you in the seat in high speed maneuvers allowing greater control of the vehicle, which used to be a big deal in the era of bench seats. Also I lost five very close friends in one year back in the day, none were wearing belts. Impacts of 20 mph can kill you. As far as helmets, I've had one probably save my life on a bike when I was hit from behind, so I wear one on the road...not that I've ridden for a couple years. And I always wore one when dirt riding. I remember sliding along one time watching the dirt fly by as I slide along the ground face shield down....
I don't even give it a thought, I just automatically put on my seatbelt when I get in the car Hotwater
lol @ the idea that seat belt laws (or any laws for that matter) are to keep people safe, as if the government gives two shits about your well-being. Thinking Big Brother has your best interests at heart is more deluded than the worst crackpot conspiracy theories. So it's a nefarious fucking plot because I think seat belt laws are about nothing more than revenue? By that definition, a lot of people would be conspiracy crackpots, since a lot of people realize that tickets issued by police are nothing more than a big money racket. You sound like a typical brainwashed liberal who sees the government as some benevolent thing that shouldn't be questioned. What better means does law enforcement have for generating revenue, other than speeding and seat belt tickets? Please pray tell.
LOL, again with the asinine conspiracy shit. So you tellin' me that the FAA is simply there as a subterfuge to make $$$ and not oversee airline safety? what a doofus.... Frankly you are simply too young to remember what it was like before seat belt laws, lot more fatalities. So don't argue with me, go research the fucking stats and try to bake up some conspiracy from the number of fatalities before and after. You are also confusing two separate things, how police departments generate revenue and federal safety laws. Two completely different animals. Intertwined, but totally different topics. Well let me ask this then. Should there be no punitive action taken against unsafe drivers? That is what you are suggesting, unless of course you would rather do some time in lock-up rather than paying a $50 ticket. you really don't think things through very far past "fuckin' Gubment!" do you? you remind me of an old friend, he also was always pissed off and ranting about this or that. we just called him "The Angy Man". maybe you should consider changing your user name.
You've all heard stories about how bad a deer flying thru your windshield can fuck you up. I don't even want a human being flying thru my windshield after they've been ejected from their car; nor, do I want to try to dodge their bodies after they hit the pavement. It's not about you. It's about us.
Well.... If you are driving without a seat-belt and start to swerve you could be thrown from behind the wheel. This position behind the steering wheel provides great advantages to people responsible for controlling 3000lb vehicles. There are cool things like brake pedals and stuff there. Pressie, are you just trying to piss people off? This is stupider than most of your threads.
yes rat, think about how someone flying through the windshield could fuck up another person. or think of the cost on society of all the maimed people who could easily have prevented their injury. $50 hardly even covers the cost of the paperwork for your ticket. if the gov. wants to make money they can raid drug dealers and tax frauds and come away with thousands or millions in one swing. your $50 fee is not exactly equipping the police state with military weapons......they already have those.
That shooting that happened recently. Bad business. That's the first time I've seen biker groups make the news tho.
I was a cop for 25 years in MD - retired in 2013. Feds push seat belt enforcement HARD and tie the enforcement in to givng $$$ to agancies that put out the most seat belt tix
I still don't want any body flying through my wind shield or bouncing of the pavement in front of me.
so are you saying that seat belt tickets do in fact provide the police with a substantial amount of money?
It's not just the money from the fines, he's saying it's tied to federal funding. The feds can threaten to withhold say, federal highway funds. Which in my state are very important because there isn't enough tax base to support the transportation infrastructure. It's not dis-similar from extortion. The Feds do it all the time. It's almost enough to turn a guy libertarian! lol
I was t-boned drivers side back in the 90s while in a Chevy Celebrity. I wasnt wearing a seatbelt. Bench seat I was thrown from the drivers to the passenger door. This actually saved my body parts. I would have lost my left arm, been pinned or died. The driver the oncoming truck did die, his chest crushed. I was sore for a week, but nothing broken. Car then didnt have airbags. Wouldnt have mattered. My steering wheel was where the radio was. I dont wear them very much, I will when I know the roadway is fucked with head on collisions, but locally in the hood I dont. Most the driving around here is slow..
