Just this morning the screen on my Lenova Thinkpad has been gong blank for a second. This happens when I am scrolling. It keeps on doing it . What is happening?

Without the opportunity to actually physically interact with your device, my best guess would be that something could be going wrong with the wiring that connects the screen to the video card/GFX chip, or there's something wrong with the video card itself. I once had an Asus laptop, its screen died completely when the soldering points that connect the screen's wires to the GFX board failed. The first symptoms before this happened kinda resembled that what you're describing. But hard to tell with just this info alone.

Definitely get this checked, if you still value that rig. If things first just work, and then don't, it's usually always a sign that the physical components have started to act up. In particular, if your laptop has NVidia anything as its graphics hardware, you should be worried. NVidias have a terrible failure rate.

Also, if you have files that you value, back them up NOW! If your screen dies later, recovering them then becomes much harder. Flash drives are cheap now, you have no excuse.

  3. a backup copy, yes, you must do it. but it's okay if the screen dies (take the cord and connect it to the monitor, or TV - then make a backup copy). First, to give you a complete answer, write a model.
