just drove a gorgeous new Toyota van pulling 1500 pounds of wood home in the dark on an unlit deer riddled hilly and windy highway to get home

went to my friends farm...and raided his bush for maple trees downed by the beavers in his pond.....musta been 50 trees just in one area but not all were maple

ortus.....unemployment eligibility in Canada is based upon only the most recent job worked.....its not true that you get denied for quitting.....it only delays you and you get penisized...I mean penalized....

....but since you quit each job to go elsewhere they wont give you too hard a time....specially since you were laid off from the most recent one.....all the weeks will still count....you should qualify but ei is based on how long you were working....you likely will only get 16 weeks at a minimum rate

i had my wisdom teeth removed when i was 16. all four taken out at the same time, 2 were impacted and had to be broken out. i had 1 weeks worth of percocets, one week of vicodins, and one week of 800 mg ibuprofen. i went into withdrawals from the percocets, and i was taking them as prescribed. my parents always told me not to trust things altered by man.

When I was 18 I had to have all of my wisdom teeth taken out. The 2 on the bottom weren't impacted per se, but they weren't coming straight in either. He had to "work" to get them out. :(

HUNDREDS of years ago :p dentists didn't tell you anything they didn't absolutely have to tell...and I knew something was happening bad with the bottom ones. He about broke my jaw and I do remember the back teeth being loose for a time after that. I was told to eat soft foods for at least 2 weeks. It took a while before I was able to completely close and open my mouth and for it feel aligned right.

Had that sadist jackass dentist even suggested I go to an oral surgeon, that would have been done pronto.

Anyway, to this day I have an unreasonable phobia about dentists and when I get even a filling, I have to have at least 1 10 mg valium.

Even though I have no luck to speak of, I would still have to risk wasting that money (and living - lol) and getting that effer pulled. This is probably one of those "wrong things" I have stuck in my head...but it seems like I've heard that you can die from blood poisoning from an infected/abscessed tooth!

    Also, I <3 the dog's pic.

Ahh I see, this makes more sense. Someone was telling me how since I quit the other 2 jobs, all the money I put into EI is no longer valid and I just lose it all, I was very

How do they determine how much they pay you? Like I worked full time, 40 hours a week at $12 and hour for 5 months. Do they like... pay you 8 hours a day for 5 days a week at say... $7-8 and hour then? Is it something kinda like that?

This is seriously the kinda stuff they should be teaching in schools... Because honestly when it comes to this kinda stuff nobody my age that i talk to knows anything, even my parents dont know much... And just the other week i found out i owe the government over $300 for medical? I shit you not, i didn't even know that I had to pay medical! I didn't know people paid medical... I thought it just came out of our taxes or something i dunno... And just so much stuff about the government/taxes/the real world that nobody leaving school really knows about at all... why don't they teach you this stuff instead of what hilter did or the fuckin french revolution or some other bullshit like finding the angles of an acute triangle and how to decode ancient poetry... how does any of that benefit my life today? I'd rather have learnt real stuff. SMH school system lol

I bet you get a percent of your total salary but it will be less then 100% so your motivated to find more work. US unemployment is like 60%.

My mom was on medical leave once, I remember it took her months to get paid... and when she finally did get paid it wasn't much at all, so i'm feeling a tad skeptical lol but i think there was some paperwork issues involved, she didn't really know what she was doing/didn't really need the money anyways

But meh, my cost of living is insanely low... $600 a month for all bills, anything after that is spending/saving...

Speaking of which...I sure do miss your school days, Ortus, and your g/f decoding poems and entertaining us here at hf. :D

I don't know how unemployment works in Canada. In the US, unemployment is definitely determined by what happened on the last job. If you are laid off and have worked for a sufficient amount of time (6 to 9 months is the shortest amount of time you can work and get unemployment, I think) you will get paid a fraction of what you made. Here in the US, there is a cap...if you are laid off of a 100K job, the most you are going to get in UI isn't $400 a week.

Here in the US, I'm fairly certain kids aren't taught anything about getting unemployment because the people in the government don't fully understand it. :p The amount of time you can get it and the amount itself is subject to change from year to year.

Edit: I should have stated that in SC the unemployment cap per week is around $400. Its probably more in other states.

I once lost unemployment because the state said the company did not exist. Had I not botherd to find a job they would pay me but because I took a holiday job at this place and said I quit I got nothing. You have to call this number and say you applied for X amount of jobs. I was honest and said I didn't do that because I found a job but it was temporary so I no longer have it. It screwed me.

The place had a building and people who had worked there for years. I have no idea how they did not exist on tax records.

    OMG!

Its damn disheartening to learn that if you had lied, you would have received money you were justified to receive. grrrrr

That's like when I broke my arm on the job at this restaurant job I had (in 2000)...this particular restaurant is even considered one of the top 3 in this city (politicians, events etc are held here)...but they had no workman's comp. Rest assured I didn't pay for my break...I had the hospital and doctor, etc mail the bills to this restaurant.

Guess what I got for my trouble? I was "replaced".

SC is called a no-fault state...meaning that an employer can let you go for any reason, or even no reason...through "no fault" of your own. lol

True lynn i made the maximum when i was on it 3 years ago in nj. It was over $500. I forget the exact amount. I think it was 66%of what you made. Or $530 (estimating there) whichever was lower

you have to fill out these little cards here if you are on unemployment...the cards must be mailed back to the government a date specified....

    a Friday....

we would drive downtown to the government building in Vancouver on Thursday night and hand the cards to the security guard at 1 minute after midnite ...

he then brought the cards directly to the office for processing and our checks would go out Friday morning and we would get them in our Monday morning mail

    it was an awesome system

also, pretty sure self-employed people can exempt themselves from EI in Canada, can't you?

and ortus - you have to have proof that you've been actively looking for a job while you're on EI, otherwise they'll take it all back and get you for fraud.

Feeling grand this morning (although a tiny bit hungover). I can put full weight on my ankle today too, which makes me hopeful about being on skates again soon.
