    NPR : news

The kids have received (this week) 1.2 million dollars in donations . Please send more . The survivors firstly dedicate the money
to their collectively defined , focused political action - then what remains unspent to their schoolmates' victim fund .

    Hum .

Best option is still prevention of course. Deranged people don't have to become deranged shooters.

Its so completely unneccesary... All these deaths. All these schools that have to invest in metal detection stuff, bulletproof blackboards and armed security instead of education material.
It's a travesty to have a leader that acts like this is the solution.

More guns in schools is the single dumbest argument ever. It only makes sense for the terrorist nra which is really just a lobbyist group for gun manufacturers.

Ironic the right wing nut jobs, certain not this batshit crazy administration, that doesn’t support public education, doesn’t like the new fangled math tough in schools and hates teachers unions, now trusts these people with Glocks

Have you idiots ever been in a classroom???? Teachers are there to teach kids, not be Rambo. It’s a completely unfair expectation. Military experts have come in and said they would not pull a gun in an active shooter situation. Why? Who else has a concealed weapon? What happens when the cops arrive and the gym teacher whom they don’t know is firing away like Yosemite Sam? The utter stupidity of that argument floors me

Irmi, it's what we call a pop tart (toaster pastry). I posted this picture because back in 2013, a kid was suspended from elementary school for eating this pastry into the shape of a gun (this same picture), and was pointing and acting like he was shooting fellow classmates with it during lunchtime.

He doesn't mean this litterally. I wonder how many people in this thread have been subject to gun violence or knows someone extremely close to their heart that have been victims? I see a lot of folks here with something to say about it s if they are strong advocates for or against it, but who has actually experienced it in some way shape or form? Hmmm...I think I'm going to start a new thread for discussion.

Yeah I saw a spot on I think NPR or ABC, I don't recall which, where a student said he was interviewed by CNN about his experience and they knew he was going to speak in Washington. They be-friended him and used the premise of helping him prepare, by providing him a list of questions and scripted inputs they wanted him to use. He rejected them and said that these didn't represent him and his feelings. He did not state the particulars he simply said they were trying to alter his ideas towards something else entirely, and he stuck with his own that he had written.

So sad. These kids have already been victimized enough.

All of those kids were GREAT. Maybe just maybe their movement will make the difference.

My son has a number of guns and quite enjoys shooting at his best friend's father-in-law's range in the country. He doesn't hunt and we have had many a discussion about guns and these school shootings, and the ability of almost anyone in the public to obtain assault rifles.

It should go without saying that people with mental health issues should not be able to obtain a gun...at least make them work for it! fgs - The local gun-dealer shouldn't be able to give a mentally challenged person his choice of weaponry, and it is unfathomable that this has even become a question.

The damn military failed way back when the dude shot up the church in Texas...remember how he had been dishonorably discharged as well as had at least one (I think more though) CDV charge. HOWEVER, the military failed to report this...and there you go. I bet if he'd been busted with possession of weed they'd have gotten that recorded! smh

Making stricter gun regulations, or rather making a person pass a number of tests to legally obtain a gun - and NOT having semi or fully automatic weapons available to just any jackass that can pass the background checks - is NOT taking guns away from "everybody"....as so many want to say and/or imply.
