what if u fit them chains on ur tires to get good grip =/ i dunno shouldt there be like a plow service or ppl spilling sand on the ice to make it more crude
HAHA... its so funny to hear people fear driving in snow... i've been doin it my whole life.. its nothing hard.. just dont be stupid.. keep your car in low gear. you'll be fine.. rear wheel drive in the winter time does kinda suck compared to awd 4X4 or fwd
I think a healthy respect is good and as someone else said, if you aren't a little on edge about driving in the snow you're a fool. I'm far more confident about driving on snow if there aren't many other people out there. Snow driving is one thing but ice driving is an entirely different animal- and I got that chance a couple weeks ago as the roads iced over as I was driving home. It's bad enough when things are slick to begin with but when the trip starts with mostly dry traction and concludes as a skating rink there's some heart-in-your-throat moments there... first when I was being passed left and right when the rain got going and I could see the sheen on the pavement... which was why I was going well under the limit for once. Then as I took an on-ramp to a connector highway I did a light brake tap and the car slid sideways I knew the trip was to be interesting. There were at least a dozen spin-outs and crashes... one car was well off the road in the woods. What was normally a 20 minute drive took well over an hour but I sure was happy to be safely home... my biggest mishap was nearly landing on my ass when I stepped out of my car onto an ice covered driveway.
^^^ yea two weeks ago we had sleet and rain non-stop for about 3 hrs.. roads were glare ice.. everything was covered in a sheet of ice... but was i scared to drive? no.. because i have the confidence to drive in this sort of weather.. back in '01 i drove up to grandforks, nd... i was doing about 110 in the middle of january on I-94... there was about 3-4ft of snow in the medians and on the ground... so state troopers couldnt really bust a u-turn and pull me over.. i understood the fact that if i was to wipe out i probably would have been in trouble.. but im a good driver
honestly i was drinking and worrying too much about this shit and not wanting to deal with it so early in the morning....but i left half an hour before i needed to be there and so i had plenty of time, was fifteen minutes early...luckily it stayed warm enough all night that all the rain just essentially got rid of most of the snow, and the water was still liquid when i was going in to work so it didnt freeze until mid-morning when the cold winds started whipping up and the snow started falling again, but by then most of the roads had been salted, so it was slick when i went home but managable for sure we dont get a ton of snow here, but it does get nasty for a while in the winter. as i hadn't had to drive in anything worse than rain for over half a year, i am not at all used to driving in these conditions anymore, and am more worried because i was so unused to it and i have never driven my current car in really bad weather, and everyone had told me how bad mustangs are in the winter. anyway, our area is pretty bad at clearing roads, and most folks around here aren't great at driving in such weather unless they have good tires, 4 wheel drive, and so on. i only slipped a few times today, and nothing too bad
i was just out driving, my car slid a few times.. it's still snowing like crazy here i don't wanna have to go back out driving in it
delivering pizza in a snowstorm is the worst cause you know you have to keep going back out there. theres just nothing pleasant about winter now that i haven't got access to a darkroom. the only good thing about snow is that its pretty when its new, but everything else about winter is pretty miserable in my opinion. human beings as an animal aren't built to live in such conditions...... i want to move somewhere where it's always warm someday. some people say you can get tired of it, but i really can't see that happening unless we're talking about dangerously hot desert type conditions.... visits to family for christmas would provide more than enough wintertime for my year!
i know exactly what you're saying i always say i wanna live somewhere where it's warm all year round. i don't care if i ever saw snow again, i hate it
and really we have pretty fucking mild winters where i live. but i just detest the winter so much that even what little i have to endure is unbearable... i'm just made to be warm. my ideal temperature for the middle of the day is 80-90, and i dont like the temperature to fall far below 70 at night except once in a while
I'd feel like such a dick if I ordered delivery during a big snowstorm. Needless to say if it came down to having to order delivery I would give the driver a bomb ass tip.
