I saw on Yahoo news that the governor of Texas had reported it. So he's gone for sure. They are already talking about Obama appointments being futile with a Republican congress. I remember when Scalia was appointed by Reagan. At first Reagan wanted a man named Ginsberg (I think) and it turned out that he had been a pot smoker. So, Reagan replied with something like, "it was a youthful mistake." And Reagan thought he should still be confirmed to the Supreme Court, regardless of his taste for weed.
Interesting plot twist at this late date for Obama. I'm sorry to his family. Sudden death is difficult to cope with for anyone. He was a tough one, though. I'm surprised he was the one to pass, considering the advanced age of some other justices.
I hope Bernie Sanders becomes President. I honestly cannot enjoy life in a nation that is so far to the right extreme. Trump is not presidential material, because he shoots off at the mouth too much. Cruz is a Wall Street crony, and his economic plan raises taxes for everyone except the top 01%. Now Hillary has more classified email problems. That pretty much leaves us with Bernie, and he does have a plan for the economy. I hope he tells us more about his "global condition plan" like war and Israel v Palestine and so on.
I agree. I hope that Scalia is where he deserves to be. (I'm not thinking caviar and champagne. When we have a large life such as that of any of the SCJ, we can expect many people to note how our actions affect others. All that being said... this is a heck of a time for this to happen with this being election year. Even the GOP majority Congress may not want to come off as too jackassy (yes I think thats a word )
I guessing there's a sign at the entrance which reads "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here." Hotwater
Some say don't speak ill of the dead, but that was never Scalia's style not to chastise decent decisions on the court that he did not agree with, so fuck that. He was an asswipe of a human who brot his religious prejudices to the bench in a secular society. He was one of five conservatives but he let out his vitriolic hatred for minorities be known by writing his honest bigoted opinions, especially when the majority went with a civil right decision that he voted against. So, I say Good Riddance to a despicable person.
I'm going to guess that a sitting president has always put forth SC nominations, regardless of time left in office. Fuckin' repubs IMMEDIATLY state that he won't get one passed (past?) them. Just the usual--stop Obama --whatever he says or does. WE better not get a republican president that can pick another SC nominee, since the facade is down that SC justices are supposed to rule on the Constitution --not personal opinion. The repubs are plain spoken in what they want--another conservative that represents the 1%. Scalia is the one, I believe that handed GW the presidency. When questioned about it, he said "get over it.." One time ruling, they said. I don't wish death on anyone-BUT--some times I'm not real sad about some of them that go. Let's see--Alito--and---
I guess there is still hope for humanity. The Hippies have come out and criticized a person who hated minorities, hated women who wanted abortions, and people with "life styles" that he did not like. Scalia often is praised by the far right as a man who loved his country, "A Great America" as Bill O'Riely put it, and "A Great Patriot" as Sean Hannity put it. Well, when I turned on the Hippy.com page, I saw this quote by Emma Goldman: "Patriotism...is a supersition artificially created and maintained through a network of lies and falsehoods; a superstition that robs man of his self respect, and dignity, and increases his arrogance and conceit." Scalia's Republican friends need to read some by Emma Goldman!
for once, everyone is so far ahead of me, i don't feel like there's anything i need to add. then again maybe that's because i haven't yet had much time to think about it. well people do die, and its not something anyone can buy their way out of.
