options or the lack of them, have nothing to do with it.

there are only the odds, and everything you can do to improve them.
but that's it. barring myracles and strangeness,

if we wish to live in a happy, peaceful AND gratifying world,
(which yes, we ARE perfectly capable of)
there is only one fantasy we need to reject,
it is that of belligerence being heroic.
