Border collies are the best dogs in the world. Simply amazing animals. I had one growing up, and I still miss her.

Was going to say the same thing.

 

She's actually an Australian Shepherd. I've wanted one for 15+ plus years. I had wanted a blue merle, but she looks like exactly like a minature version of my old Kuvasz/Akita; I had to have her.But yes, border collies are really great dogs.

I was watching a dude with sheep and border collies at work a couple of weeks ago. Some of the sheep got out of the fence and he sent the dogs after them. They didn't hurt the sheep but it was really impressive. That guy could be 300 feet away with the dogs chasing the sheep (which are very fast) at full speed and he could yell something and the dogs would come to a dead halt and lay down in a second. He could get them up and herding just as quickly with a different call. It was pretty impressive. And the sheep can pretty much out-run the dogs if they want to.

 

They tend to do their jobs well. I hope I'll have a farm within the next year or two. That's the next step.

 

Those dogs were clearly not aggressive but yet doing something that made them very happy. It was like they were doing the one thing that made them the happiest they could be....without hurting the sheep. Pretty cool. Plus, the sheep get out and really just want to figure out how to get back in with the rest anyway. The dogs just direct them.

they are so smart...i would want a mini australian shepherd

the breeders here always want too much cash though
