"the president, a reformed smoker, " Why not just say "a smoker ?" I wonder what other modern presidents were smokers?
Not a bad idea, I think a thread or even a whole forum would be fun. I used to smoke them more when I lived in South Carolina. The question I want to know is how much to you want to spend. I spent anywhere from $3.50 to as much at $20.00 a pop for the good ones. My everyday smoke was the Macanudo Robusto, its a darker color with a more richer flavor. I like amost anything from Honduras. I started off with the lighter ones and then moved onto the darker flavors. Believe it or not the size, width and length makes a difference on how they smoke as well. Not to mention how you cut your cigars. There is the bullet cut, a pin hole and then the big ol choper. The thing about a good cigar is you need time to enjoy it. I can smoke one for hours. I personally recomend getting a quality cigar cutter. It's well worth it. Also, when you light a cigar try to use a wood match and not a lighter. It can affect the flavor of a good cigar. I could talk about this for hours so you might be right about the cigar thread. However, I am about to go on vacation and I will not be on very much over the next week. Just remember to try different styles, colors and where they are from. Cubans are ok, but not the best anymore. Dominicans are good as well. Check out this web site, www.howtomokeacigar.com, it has some helpful information as well. I tried a newer one the other day it was called a Nub. A short cigar. It was not bad.
