   I have seen Sata 2 and Sata 3 hard drives on E-bay. Can these be fitted to a laptop that had an earlier Sata hard drive?

   It's my understanding that SATA 2 and 3 are compatible with SATA 1 ,the connectors should be the same.
   SATA II hard drives and compatibility with SATA I controllers
