Sanctuary?

All that torture was mostly used by the Catholic Church against "heretics" (Protestants) and Jews. However Calvin and Oliver Cromwell weren't exactly meek or peacemakers like Jesus said his followers should be.

I'm a Christian but I rarely come on here anymore because of the bashing and stereotyping. Alot of pholks on here just lump all of us Christians together and think that we are all alike when nothing could be furthur from the truth.
A good example of this would be lumping Bush and his ilk in with peace luvin' Christians like yours truly.

It's difficult not to lump all christians together, as in the end, they all hold the same basic beliefs - beliefs which seem very narrow and quite arbitrary, even dangerous.
A wrathful god who judges people, and requires a bloody sacrifice to propitiate his anger is really a scare story for people with little intelligence. As is the idea of heaven and hell.
Also, the ethics of c/anity leave much to be desired, and are often inferior to those of the humanist.

Christianity is the practical opposite of everything you mistakenly assigned to it.
(actually I think you are talking about Judaism there)

We have a God who is now satisfied.
He has reconciled mankind to Him and there remains no more sacrifice for sins.
He has put that issue to rest for once and for all.

I can imagine you were so disgusted with a vengeful God demanding sacrifice you might even have said something like:
"Then why doesnt HE do it himself and stop taking it out on humans!"

But seriously, the whole concept is brilliant from beginning to end and you might want to find out about Christianity first before screwing up again.
MeAgain has a 'Sticky' at the top of this forum and it was put there to help people out before they post on the topics.
Its one of the things Skip did right and is meant to help so please use it.

 

I think this is rubish quite frankly. It is the whole notion of any sacrifice being necessary I object to. If god is all-powerful, why bother with all that? Why not just forgive them anyway?
I don't actually believe jesus was god, so to me, nailing him to a cross was irrelevant.

I don't believe in 'sin' either - so the thing is doubly irrelevant.

As to me being 'filled with hate' - I'm not. I am simply saying what I think, bsed on my studies of c/anity. When I saw the tv report about the first legal gay parterships in the UK, and saw the christians who were 'protesting' about that, it was pretty clear where the hate was coming from. An entrenched establishment cult who are rightly being marginalized in the present day. There are numerous other examples of christian hate.
So far as I'm concerned, christains are simply deluded by their emotions, and by the malefficient input they get from preachers, who are as ignorant and deluded as you can get. Mom and dad and apple pie. BS of the worst most braindead type.
Same applies to all the western religions, and some eastern one's too. Cult vs. cult doesn't promise much for world peace in the future.

But actually, I've noticed before the tendency of christians to attribute 'hate' to those who disagree with their silly cult. It seems the brainwashing goes very deep.
