there were more than protests when the schools were "intergrated." thats why the democrat delegates for the DNC from New York don't want to come to my neighborhood, cuz of what happened then.
forced bussing is a pain in the ass for the poor kids that have to get up early and get home late to go to a school where they know no one and can't hang out with their classmates or neighborhood friends. the kids are left out of the socializing within their own community to be forced to attend school with a bunch of kids who don't know who they are. i know there are kids outther more than willing to go to another school, but there were several i attended school with who were irritated by the whole fucking thing. bussing wasn't a big program, but basically their parents made them do it.
Racial equality was clearly the intent of the 14th Amendment, and "separate but equal" was easily shown to be inherently contradictory. The Warren Court didn't have to invent some new legal doctrine to strike down govenment-sponsored racial segregation. By contrast, it is sheer novelty to surmise that the 14th Amendment requires a radical redefinition of marriage in androgynous terms.
what's the difference between defining marriage as being between a man and a women to supposedly "protect the sanctity of the insitition" and defining marriage as simply a contract between two people no matter what the sexual orientation?
In The Netherlands we do not have gay marriage. We've got marriage, it just doesn't matter if it's between man/women or man/man or woman/woman. It's been like that since 2001. Totally equal, even with adoption rights. It hasn't changed anything about how people see marriage and it didn't caused any massive social unrest or moral outrage. Just two people who vow to spend their lives together. Fine, let them have a go. Gay couples are much the same as straight couples. We already had the first gay divorces. Marriage in the church is a different matter. Then you follow the rules that religion has. It's your choice. Keep religion and politics separated. And for the children: two loving parents are better than one. I've got two friends who've been brought up by gay parents, they're fine. And no, they're not gay themselves. Gay marriage will not fundamentally change your society. Don't worry about it.
