Let Her Cry by Hootie and the Blowfish is pretty sad. From what I get out of it, it's about a guy who loves a girl who has severe depression and got into drugs and has been generally spiralling downwards. The singer wants to leave her but he can't because he loves her too much and still has hope that she'll return back to the person she used to be. *sniff* Always gets me.
"sad lisa" by cat stevens (usuf islam!) oh man...sing it with feeling, and then tell me it's not sooo sad
i think Dreamer by Ozzy and Imagine by John Lennon because of how you realize how much the world is unlike the one they are talking about.
-Jeff Buckley - Grace, Last Goodbye, Halleluja... God, his music is beautiful, yet sad. -Portishead - sour times, glory box -Nick Drake - Place to be -Jefferson Airplane - Coming Back to me -the beatles - While my guitar gently wheeps, elenor rigby... ...that is all I can think of right now.Why is it that the saddest songs are the most beautiful.
Some of them are not new in this thread, but here I go: Hallelujah - Leonard Cohen (Jeff Buckley version is even better) The partisan - Leonard Cohen (16 Horsepower & Noir Desir version is darker and almost tragic) Diamonds and rust - Joan Baez Hurt - NIN (check out the Johnny Cash version, and watch the video clip if you can for the full effect) (To be continued...)
Go with rodia ~ Leonard Cohen songs such as ~ Last Years Man ~ gotta be the gloomiest opening ever!! The rain falls down on last years man, thats a bible in his pocket, and a razor in his hand.....
anyone mentioned Radiohead yet? now thats what i call depressing... especially song entitled Exit music (for a film)
agh cant stand radiohead... hearing that bloody bloke whining is enough to make anyone suicidal. err anyway... sad songs: Many songs by Springsteen are quite sad but beautiful too a few to mention are: Racing in the Street The Promise Stolen Car (check out Patti Griffins cover too) My fathers house Paradise Downbound train the list goes on hehe... random other depressing but brilliant songs are: Patti Griffin - Rain Ben Harper - Amen Omen Sun Kil Moon - Carry Me Ohio Gillian Welch - Revelator Kathleen Edwards - Mercury I could go on but i'd never finish the list
One So Black - Bongwater City Bird - Of Montreal Love - Robyn Hitchcock Somewhere over the rainbow - Judy Garlan You Got the Silver - Rolling Stones ...and about 300 others Glass Hotel - Robyn Hitchcock Mother - J Lennon Indoor Fireworks - Elvis Costello Memory Motel - Rolling Stones Dead Melodies - Beck
free bird - lynyrd skynyrd sea and the rhythm - iron & wine i have no idea what the name of it is, but that song where they just say hallelujah (sp?) a bunch, so sad.
Iron and wine are a great band ...have a listen to their song called 'Each Coming Night' i think ive fallen in love with it
This Time by the Smashing Pumpkins. You can hear him almost crying on the album in this song. This time I need to know I really must be told If it's over It's up to you, you know The things you want to hold Are in pieces Crashing down Crashing down again Crashing down Crashing down my freinds I've got to move it on I've got to sing my song While I still can Dispatch the last alarms Hand out the last few charms There's no surprises Only love Only love can win Crashing down Crashing down again Only love Yeah only love will win Crashing down Crashing down again This time I need to know I really must be told That it's over I've lived my life alone My every step foretold To never linger And yet it haunts me so What are we letting go Our spell is broken Crashing down Crashing down my friends Crashing down Crashing down again Only love Yeah only love will Be enough Yeah only love will win For every chemical You trade a piece of your soul With no return And who you think you know Doesn't know you at all Their drain is needless Someday we'll wave hello And wish we'd never waved goodbye To this romance We'll drink up every line And shoot up every word Till there's no more Crashing down Crashing down my friends Only love Only love can win So cry these tears we'll cry as all We've held so long to fall apart As the curtain falls we bid you all goodnight The Show Must Go On by Queen Empty spaces - what are we living for Abandoned places - I guess we know the score On and on, does anybody know what we are looking for... Another hero, another mindless crime Behind the curtain, in the pantomime Hold the line, does anybody want to take it anymore The show must go on The show must go on, yeah Inside my heart is breaking My make-up may be flaking But my smile still stays on Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance Another heartache, another failed romance On and on, does anybody know what we are living for ? I guess I'm learning (I'm learning learning learning) I must be warmer now I'll soon be turning (turning turning turning) Round the corner now Outside the dawn is breaking But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free The show must go on The show must go on, yeah yeah Ooh, inside my heart is breaking My make-up may be flaking But my smile still stays on Yeah yeah, whoa wo oh oh My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies Fairytales of yesterday will grow but never die I can fly - my friends The show must go on (go on, go on, go on) yeah yeah The show must go on (go on, go on, go on) I'll face it with a grin I'm never giving in On - with the show Ooh, I'll top the bill, I'll overkill I have to find the will to carry on On with the show On with the show The show - the show must go on
Bruce Springsteen - Downbound Train I had a job, I had a girlI had something going, mister, in this worldI got laid off down at the lumber yardOur love went bad, times got hardNow I work down at the car washWhere all it ever does is rainDon't you feel like you're a rider on a downbound train She just said, "Joe, I gotta goWe had it once, we ain't got it anymore"She packed her bags, left me behindShe bought a ticket on the Central LineNights as I sleep, I hear that whistle whiningI feel her kiss in the misty rainAnd I feel like I'm a rider on a downbound train Last night I heard your voiceYou were crying, crying, you were so aloneYou said your love had never diedYou were waiting for me at homePut on my jacket, I ran through the woodsI ran till I thought my chest would explodeThere in the clearing, beyond the highwayIn the moonlight, our wedding house shoneI rushed through the yardI burst through the front door, my head pounding hardUp the stairs I climbedThe room was dark, our bed was emptyThen I heard that long whistle whineAnd I dropped to my knees, hung my head and criedNow I swing a sledge hammer on a railroad gangKnocking down them cross ties, working in the rain Now, don't it feel like you're a rider on a downbound train Now tell me that isnt a sad song!
