When brought to the film screen, La Boheme takes on a lot more meaning. Who could ask for a better Mimi.!!!!

I think The Pianist is a far better movie in that vein of story

Dead Poet's Society was pretty sad.

I didnt realize how many times i've stopped watching that movie halfway through and never saw the end. I finally sat through the whole movie a couple months ago and the end was a bit of a wtf moment for me

I thought Bridges Of Madison County (Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep) was really sad.

I went to see it alone and sat in the theater, crying, after it was over.

My saddest film I ever watched was "Fluke"; about a business man died at a car accident and woke up as puppy. The whole story is sooo sad, I can't write about it otherwise I have to cry...

I agree that Brokeback mountain is incredibly sad.. the ending surely made me cry.
The saddest movie I have ever seen has been Requiem for a Dream. It seems that the whole point of the movie was to make the characters suffer as much as possible and crush all their hopes. It was also incredibly well made, and visually absolutely beautiful- I think this all the more added to the tragedy of it.

image.jpeg "Mommy Dearest." I felt so bad for Christina (Joan Crawford's daughter) getting abused and mistreated by Joan throughout the whole movie. Christina did everything she could to make their relationship work and in the end, to see that Joan left nothing for her daughter when she passed away, that was pretty sad to watch. Faye Dunaway did such a good job of her portrayal of Joan Crawford, that I hated to even see her in other roles. Joan, what a cast-iron bitch!

Here's a great interview with Christina Crawford (if you get some time to watch it)

I have not. It sounds familiar and very long time ago- but no I haven’t seen it. Will it bring a tear to my eye?

Not sure if it will bring a tear to your eye, but it is one of the few films that gets away with just three characters, something that generally does not work because of outstanding acting. The two stars were at each others' throats in camera and off camera - method acting at its truest. Victor Buono also turned on an outstanding performance. His character denied knowledge of who his biological father was - an issue that is around today.
