local public broadcast had a nice backstory on BB King. Sad indeed, he may of not been able to walk with his legs very well, but he could walk about on the fretboard with ease into his final weeks. I was probably more touched by the backstory, even tho Ive seen the King in concert a small handful of times. I wasnt really a die hard fan.. I liked him no doubt but knew little of his life and career.. RIP.
I personally cared more for the raucous types like Lightnin' Hopkins and Muddy waters and primitives like Robert Johnson. BB was more of a blues balladeer, but influential, for sure.
Besides his important contributions in terms of recordings and live performances, I love the chain of blues clubs he founded. In every city that has one, it's the best in town. I hope they will be around forever. I wish I could hang out at the original BB King's in Memphis tonight, to honor him. Next best thing: playing the blues channel on satellite radio, which is playing nobody else all weekend.
