Film making is a collaborative effort. I cannot think of any film that is such a waste of talent applied to such a lousy script. Essentially it was saying it is cool to be ungrateful, lazy and selfish. I find such values to be completely disagreeable.
The character played by Sarah Miles was so ungrateful that she was ungrateful for not having what she dd not know what she did not have.
