I agree with you RooRshack. However, the current state of affairs is that there is a Federal database that everyone must pass before they can buy any firearms in this country. I am horrified at the trend I have observed of politicians on all sides of the aisle is to push for greater and greater government intervention, ala "let me see your papers," and "prove you're innocent, but we won't tell you what we think you did." If you have any doubts, consider the TSA screenings. Bigger government and more intrusive regulation is always proposed as the cure for any problems, anywhere, including problems that are found with government and regulations.

One of the best analogies to the current political climate that I've read in years goes like this: A small town has a busy main street which has a speed limit of 30 mph. A small group starts racing through town at over 100 mph and threatening the safety of everyone. Instead of making ANY attempt to catch those who are dangerous, the response by local legislators is to crack down on everyone else and lower the speed limit to 5 mph, "for the public safety." The racers are still going to go 100+ mph, since no one is trying to catch them, but now everyone else will have to suffer by following an unreasonable law. The real problems still persist, and safety is not increased at all, but everyone feels good about "having done something" about the problem.

Also, I know several folks who work in gun shops. They all tell lots of stories of refusing to sell guns to folks who they thought were about to use them for bad or illegal purposes. Everyone I know who works in that industry is very serious about safety and the law.

I would be delighted if folks would go back to common sense in this country, but as we all know, common sense isn't very common.

    Peace to you all. :)

"if ballots dont work bullets will"

i dont see how people can listen to rhetoric like this and say it has nothing to do with it. i dont give a f*** what you believe but america is a democracy and we handle our problems at the ballot, not with bullets. im not saying our gov. is not corrupt but its not so corrupted that democracy cant fix it. and there is no leftist equivalent to this sh** that spews out the right wing media, aside from the 9-11 conspiracy nuts, which is a fringe group within the liberal community. this rhetoric is pervasive throughout the tea party movement and right wing talk radio.

and also when i say these people are 'partialy responsable' i do not mean legal action needs to be taken or that their freedom of speech should be curbed. all im saying is that what they say is terrible and anti-democratic and would be ridiculed off the air if the media at all represented majority opinion.

you know there are real life examples of how a country turns out when their government is decided by an endless series of coups and overthrows and assassinations, i dont want america to end up like el salvador, i like america how it is despite its so called "problems"

It's simple by example=You go into ,say, a store of some kind. The people are grumpy, not helpful and you're going to feel that attitude.. Conversely, you go into another store and the people are smiling, helpful and seem to be happy to help you. Chances are , the owner of the first store could be a prick. Chances also are ,that the second owner is a good person. Attitudes come from those in authority. We've all seen it. The attitude/s from 2000 on -the republicans--the divisiveness--the anti american blather from the likes of limbaugh, hannity, armey, gingrich,et al-- is lingering from that time. It filters down to their adherants and the rhetoric gets louder and more disrupting until it gets"results". Sure, an individual did this, but would he have done it if it was the 50s? Oh yes--and by the way who killed the Kennedys? King? Moderates? Leftists?Uh huh-- That's right--right wingers.

Obama has tried to change the tone of the discourse between dems and repubs to no avail. They're not having any of it. I think it must be scary for the repubs to think that a bunch of commie-socialist -libs may be able to slow the upward flow of middle class money(what's left of it) to their benefactors. What's sad to me is that those blatherers stick up for and protect those that least need protection--the moneyed. So yeah--they're responsible for the up-tight attitudes in this country and all that follows.

Alright, I'm somewhat okay with McCain... he's somewhat of a smart guy and has some morals (tho very few) that I agree with. As for Palin and Rush frickin Limbaugh... I think they're some of the most idiotic pieces of garbage on the face of the earth... well, the face of America anyways, which is FAR from clean. But it does keep me wondering... what IF McCain and Palin made it into office?? We'd be doomed right now more than we already are. That sign Limbaugh put up tho is a bit much. As if his madness on the radio isn't. ROFL douche

Limbaugh didn't put up that sign, his show is syndicated on hundreds of radio stations around the country, that was put up by a local station.
