its kind of totally random. if i happen to be walking by where someone is having a yard sale, i'll take a look at whatever tech items they have, and if they have any sf or fantasy books, i might even be tempted by toys and plushies. it just, but mostly, i've like got more stuff then i need already, and should have a yard sale myself one of these days. at any rate it doesn't happen often, i don't plan my life around it or check for ads or go look for them deliberately or anything. but like i say, if i see a yard sale, i'll look. same for farmers/flea markets. just not something i really think about much.
Haven't been to a rummage sale (jumble sale they call them sometimes) for ages. I do go to charity shops though - the town where I live has many of them. Now and then I find something useful or interesting, but often it's just junk.
Car Boot sale Bought a few DVDs at 50Pence each a tablet for £20 and a guitar for my grandson for a tenner they had loads there and it was packed I nearly bought a Russian sniper scope but the guy wanted £45 for it and wouldnt come down any I reckoned it was worth about £ 30-35
I found a vintage in a suit case of it's own...you open the latch of the suitcase and turn up the cover and there is the turntable for records of any speed.......and that was a good find...I have so many 45's and record albums and had nothing to play them on.....not that I am playing any of them...nice to know I can, though.... I found this at the sale i was disappointed in yesterday......one year. The linen wedding dress is from B.Altman, and the train hooks off from the waist......with many hook and eyes....and then you have a nice summer white linen long dress....cool! i am just getting around to dealing with all of that stuff now....
I used to have a vintage clothing shop when I lived with my parents......I only had it for a year or two, as my heart was just not in it as it should have been....but I know clothes.....like no one else, and my tastes are unbeatable! My mom taught me everything she knew and dragged me around to rummage sales which I hated at first....but then started to love going to.....She knew materials, fabrics, everything....and then I learned even more.....she had a sharp eye...and passed that on tome, as well...she could not be beat....there are alot of people who look for things ...there are two of these shops in this town....and sometimes i bring things over to one of them...they take 50 percent and give you 50 percent.....they do a thriving, bustling business....... Hard to sell things like clothing on ebay.....as photos never do the garments justice.....
My mom and I would go to rummage sales every Saturday morning in the summer. We'd always bring home big boxes of stuff...mainly cups and silverware. My mom had an insatiable appetite for cups and silverware, and we'd always try to sneak into the house, because my dad would be pissed off that she bought more cups and silverware.
LOL...my mom's thing was anything with grapes on it.....silver platters, furniture....grapes carved in wood....grapes this and grapes that...... I am not sure I have a thing.....I don;t really collect anything in particular...a little of this and that here...i do like good children;s books....cat things.....other people's art........good jewelry....but not one main passion like my mom had for grapes.
My mom stopped going to rummage sales the last 5 years of her life...she got scared of bed bugs...and this and that and everything.....and did not want to support the churches anymore....only problem is she left me with the rummaging fever, which I have not grown out of quite yet......it is fun to find an unexpected threasure...
I like yard sales, rummage sales, etc. I especially like estate sales where I get to go throughout the entire house from basement to attic. There's not much I'm actively looking for, but I like finding unexpected treasures. I like buying CDs at these sales, you can often get them for $1 or less. They're also great for buying tools, kitchen items, fishing gear, toys, and various collectibles. I check out Craigslist for sales in my area, then ride my bike around to them for exercise. It's a good way to kill time on weekend mornings.
