What I mean is do you create characters who have warts and flaws or do you like to go for the ultimate Uber-man type characters? I used to go for the uber type with cheat codes, modded equipment, etc. It can be fun being able to obliterate everything with ease, but it gets boring fast. So for years now every time I start an RPG I purposely give my character restrictions and flaws. The Battlemage character I played in Daggerfall could regenerate health and mana, absorb spells cast at him, and had nightvision, but all that only in the dark. All perks, but in order to enjoy those perks he had a few "conditions". He could not use any magic at all in daylight, was 50% more vulnerable to magic in the daytime and took damage, a lot of damage, from holy places. Almost a vampire but not quite. The damage from holy places made some quests especially hard considering they took place in temples or sanctified cemeteries and such. (that was a part of the character creation in Daggerfall, wish they still had that perk/negative feature in the games. It allowed you to really tailor a character and make them unique.) I have a Runes of Magic Character, a Barbarian. His restriction is he can only use two handed weapons and nothing else. I have a D&D Online character, another Barbarian, but this one can only dual wield. No two handers, no single weapon, no magic, no ranged weapons. The character I have in Oblivion can only use daggers and magic. No other types of melee or ranged weapons allowed. My character in Skyrim only uses bows. She can kill most anything at range with a good sneak attack, but get within melee range of her and there is a better than 80% chance she will be chum. I'm contemplating the idea of next time playing Skyrim going for a straight magic user. Yeah, crazy, I know, I'll just get used to dying a lot So do you give yourself restrictions and limitations in your characters development, or do you go all out to become the UBER_MAN!!!
I have played! I play as High Elf, only with the clothing and no armour, weapons. )) It is difficult, but I had fun this way. I have many characters. I enjoy to change from invincible character, to my character with limitations, but this depends on my mood. My favourite character is with the limitations, because I feel this character has more realism to me. I am inside the game world, and my choices and strategy more important to survive!
Yes, a straight magic user is certainly the most difficult to master, but at high levels can be pretty formidable.
My pure mage is mid-thirties right now. The hardest part of the mage is to have a companion that can take some heat but not get in the way of my spells. I've found the rogue dark-elf from Whiterun has been best (after Iona and other guy died on me in full ebony) She uses her bow well enough that I can lay down some big fire before she moves in to use her sword.
you like using the companions? I haven't gotten into using them much, she often gets in the way and being a stealthy bitch, I prefer to go it solo. but I haven't investigated all the mods for companions at the Nexus yet, so I may still take on a partner. But I'm just shy of level 46, so not sure if there is much point for this character to take on a companion.
Eww no. He's got to be perfect and almost god like. ^.^ I have a habit of really immersing myself in a large free roaming game so I create my characters based on who I'd like to be I guess. And in Skyrim I'd like to be a strong warrior =p
I used them quite a bit when the mage was low-level and I was being one-shot killed. But mostly I just keep them around for the extra carry capacity, especially if I'm on a stupid long dungeon.
I'll probably do the same if I play a mage. Use them as a buffer while I toss some spells.:2thumbsup:
It is very difficult, but the reward is great! )) Here is favourite strategy: For example, I make Enchanting tree to 80, then choose Enchanter perk (level 5/5). You can make each enchantments on clothing, and items 25% stronger. Enchant 4 items with the Fortify Destruction for total 100%, and you may cast Master Destruction spells for 0 magicka! They are very, very powerful, and fun to see! Raise tree to 100, and you may choose Extra Effect. Now, you can place 2 enchantments to your clothing and items. I choose Fortify Alteration, and can cast spells to resist (almost) all of damage, physical and the magic resistance, also for 0 magicka!
Yes, I have enchanting maxed, archery maxed, sneak maxed, and light armor almost maxed. All of my gear has double enchantments. Everything else is either in the teens or 20's still with the exception of the ones that always grow; lockpicking, mercantile, speech. Has anyone else noticed that even though they removed the plethora of minor skills such as athleticism, jumping, swimming, etc. that those abilities still progress as you level up?
Oh right, just realised I didn't actually read that quote properly in the other thread.. I hadn't noticed that, my jumping still sucks compared to Morrowind I'm not much of an avid role player, cos sometimes it's too much of a mission.. but I love the stealthy bow types, but it got way too easy once sneak reached 100. And then I found this mod: Stealth Skills Rebalanced Easier to detect if you're not in the shadows, if you shoot someone in the head and they can't find you they don't just stop looking for you after 2 minutes, and a number of other changes to pickpocketing and lockpicking as well. Basically, it forces you to role play the stealthy thief/assassin, which is what I need cos I rack disciprine. Although I did make a chicky babe Nord who I modelled on some kind of Gaelic warrior.. light armour, somewhat stealthy, axe and shield and a bow. No perks in archery, just use it as an opener. Then I charge in and hack mofo's to death. She's good fun
Cool, Thanks, installed :2thumbsup: yeah the sneak is a little ridiculous sometimes. I have snuck right up under a person before and literally put an arrow up through their chin. I installed the full version to see what changes there are to skills.
OK, so far I'm liking the sneak mod. not sure about the changes to the skill tree yet, and it knocked my lockpicking skill down from 87 to 47 ??? But the game play enhancements are pretty good, already got killed twice in situations where before I never would have been noticed :2thumbsup:
I've been using a straight up magic user in Skyrim quite a bit, and I have a pretty good time with it. Using dual casting is a life saver since it'll stun just about everyone, including dragons. Plus once you reach the top of Winterhold College and get some pretty awesome gear, plus leveling up enchanting to the max you end up having an insane Magicka regen rate, not to mention a multitude of other bonuses. So having said that my mage is (or is becoming) expert in enchanting, Destruction and Conjuration magic. I'm looking forward to getting to the top of the Conjuration tree so I can have two atronachs or Undead summoned. :2thumbsup:
It's pretty badass No idea about the lockpicking though.. I don't think it did that for me, or at least I didn't pick up on it. Actually, just thought, try taking your gloves off. There's a penalty applied for wearing gauntlets whilst picking locks, cos your fingers won't be as nimble. Should show up red in your "skill universe" if you're penalised. If that's not the problem, no idea. Should be a console command to bump it up again.
